remember when there was a radio call in contest and sponge was answering the questions...and he was gonna lose until Ug came in and said the answer to the question "what color is a giraffes tongue?"...right before Ug came in sponge said he was 'pissed' that he lost. now as an adult i know 'pissed' isnt the worst word ever, but i remember when i was 10 yrs old i felt like sponge dropped a bomb! tell me someone remembers that!!!

I had forgotten about this, but yes, he definitely says something along the lines of "I'm pissed off because I'm not as smart as I thought I was" or something. There's also at least a few more dirty (from a kids-show standpoint) lines in that series that I never picked up on as a kid but noticed recently. In the episode where Budnick and Michael fake being sick and everyone else gets lost on the way to the beach, Donkeylips is inside a latrine and tells Sponge, "they have a machine on the wall here that sells balloons!" And in the same episode when they're driving home, Sponge tells Ug that "Donkeylips just gave half a peace-sign to a guy on a motorcycle," who turns out to be a cop and pulls them over.

hahahha i definately remember that. I kept thinking to myself "did he REALLY say pissed?" to this day (im 22) i still cant believe it...like my brain wont let me think that SPONGE actually said "pissed"

reply

Yeah, there's a bunch of crazy stuff I'm picking up on now (age 21) that I naturally wouldn't pick up on as a little kid. My current favorite: The episode where Ug meets Mona for the first time. Ug is telling the girls about the time he fell in love with some girl named Rachel who had fallen out of a boat. He says he came in closer so that she could "Grab his vessel".

HAHAHA.

Man. That same episode, Ug is about to scream at the kids and he totally mouths "I'm really pissed off" but the audio conveniently fades out.

i totally remember that. i watched it not too long ago, and when i was younger, i never caught it, but when i watched it, i was like "oh my god... that word must not have been bad." so i'm okay with saying it all the time now. haha.

Lol I remember that too...I'm almost 18 now so it's been awhile but I heard that that swear word was the reason the show got pulled off the air..

I just finished watching that episode. I hadn't seen the show since it originally aired. I had to rewind it because I couldn't believe my ears. Yeah, I love this show, but unfortunately the censorship fascists wouldn't allow it on Nick (maybe Adult Swim).

I remember some mildly suggestive situations or dialogue, mostly from Budnick. One example: during the episode where Budnick and Mike fake being sick and the rest go to the beach (or try, anyway), Budnick suggests how fun it would be to go to the beach and see the girls fall out of their tops. Not to mention the aforementioned Playboy he was reading.

I loved the part where the guys were trying to get into the beehive and discovered it was just a bunch of dirty old magazines. Budnick yells something like "Do you mean a bunch of dirty old magazines, or a bunch of old dirty magazines."

reply

hahahaha i convinced myself he didn't really say that, because it would've been "illegal".

I just saw it youtube and I was shocked! They could not get away with something like that today.

I remember the "Pissed" line. It's not that much different than the "Hell" on Clarissa EIA (Even though she usually referred to the place, not a cuss word), the "Crap" on Hey Arnold and the crappy vinyl record scratch sound used as a censor on the musical performances on All That

reply

I don't remember too many of the All That musical performances being censored... I specifically remember Da Brat performing "Give It To You" with all the blatant weed references intact.

Still, that was a looooong time ago.

reply

I do remember that.

There was also a lot of sexual innuendo in Rocko's Modern Life. In one episode Rocko and Heffer are on a road trip and stop at a hotel with "hourly rates." The clerk tells them that all the rooms are taken, but then a light goes off and he says something like, "Oh, we just had an early evacuation." LOL.

I also remember being shocked when a kid in an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark referred to another character as "the boss from hell." Hell obviously isn't a terrible word, but I doubt they'd ever let it slip in any new show on Nick.

Oh, no, I'm not tired. But my finger is!
