Any reason why it only lasted 2 seasons?

I've been wondering this since 1992, when the show's was canceled. Does anyone know why the show only lasted 2 seasons?

I think the cast was getting too old and no longer seemed believable as campers, especially Blake Soper, Michael Bower, and Danny Cooksey, who were 19, 17, and 17 respectively during the show's second season. They looked old enough to be camp counselors. Plus, the growing actors probably wanted to do different projects rather than be stuck on Nickelodeon, a kid's network. I remember Venus DeMilo, around 1992-1993, appearing in a couple of episodes of Family Matters as one of Laura's friends and Danny Cooksey had his own rock band by the second season. At least, this is why I believe the show didn't last.

That makes sense. I always thought it was because Nick couldn't get acess to Griffith Park, where it was filmed. at least that's what I was told when I visited Griffith Park in 1993

according to "sponge" on his facebook account, he said that after the 2nd season, mtv bought out nickelodeon and and wanted to use the money towards their newest show at the time, Beavis and Butthead...and figured, new SYS episodes wouldn't be a part of their "newer" nickelodeon network. Crazy huh?

another reason to hate MTV

I'm pretty sure MTV owned Nick before Salute Your Shorts. I clearly remember an MTV Networks copyright in the end credits for the show "Hey Dude" (which came out a couple of years before Salute Your Shorts).

And Beavis & Butt-Head was very low budget, I doubt it would've had any impact on this show.

i got that info straight from one of the actors from sys, tim eyster. if he says that they couldnt produce anymore seasons of sys b/c of mtv and beavis and butthead (think about it, beavis and butthead started right after sys' 2nd season), then i'll believe it since he was close to the situation.

... also, sys was not filmed on location at nick studios like the rest... plus, you might have seen the mtv networks copyright at the end credits b/c hey dude continued to air reruns after mtv bought nick.

Believe it or not, Hey Dude was a show produced for MTV that aired on Nick. That's why that copyright is there back in 1989, even though MTV didn't own Nick yet.

This has been the Dark Spider

The MTV copyright was common on just about every Nickelodeon-produced show at that time. I remember being a kid watching Doug and Rugrats and seeing "Copyright 1991 MTV Networks" at the end.

And if you want to get technical, MTV Networks has always owned Nickelodeon from the start. Nickelodeon, then Pinwheel, was originally created and owned by a company called Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment. Then in 1986, WASE was bought out by Viacom and renamed MTV Networks.

No it doesn't. 90210 had people much older playing teenagers.

What's funny is when I looked and realized there were only 20 episodes I was shocked. When I was a kid it seemed like there were a lot more.

reply

i don't really see it being any of the actor's choices to end the show.
plenty of shows carry on and replace actors.
