*OFFICIAL* DVD is going to happen - but Sponge is asking fans for help spreading the word, and helping him justify the numbers to Nickelodeon.

Here's a word for the wise:

I bought a copy of the series from nickclassics.com and the quality was subpar. I knew it would be, since it was a bootleg, but I didn't know how bad it would be.

First things first, It was definitely worth the 25 bucks. No question about that. No regrets whatsoever. I love it.

Obviously it was recorded on VHS and transferred to DVD. I think they used cheap cables cause i've seen much better transfers. At the start of every episode you can see the play in white text in the upper left hand corner, and the video/audio distorts a little bit. It lasts maybe 15 seconds, then it clears up. As for the actual video, it's pretty good. Most of the show is shot at either wide or medium shots and the video is a little fuzzy. When they cut to close up shots the video is great, clear, and you can see everything. I would give the video a 7.5/10.

The audio is pretty good, other than hissing/white noise being higher than the actual audio. So when the volume is turned down low, you hear the hissing more than the talking/music. When you turn it up louder, the hissing is still there but it's not blaring or overly loud. Within 2 - 3 episodes I pretty much tuned out the hissing and only concentrated on the words/music/actual audio. I would give the audio a 6/10. I've known some people who can't tune things out (like when watching cams of downloaded movies. Like when the movie is shot with a camcorder inside a theater, and you can see people walking in front of the screen, or the bottom of the screen is cut off and you can't read subtitles or whatever.) So it's a personal choice. If you think you can live with the hissing and it won't bug you after 5 or 6 episodes, awesome. If you know you're the kind of person who gets frustrated easily by little things and can't sit through it don't even bother getting it, as you will probably hate the quality and regret wasting 20 bucks.

Like I said above, I have no regrets and I love it. I haven't seen every ep on the two disks, I've only seen most of the first disk (season 1) and everything is like I mentioned. Doesn't get better or worse. I've heard from some people the dvds they got had only a handful of episodes that actually worked, for me that hasn't been the case. If I find the episodes on the second disk to not be working, or even worse quality I will post here and tell you guys.

despite the lack of great quality, I am going to buy Hey Dude from nickclassics.com just because I used to love that show (yea, more than sys) and seeing as how the people are a bunch of dicks and probably won't release it, it'll be my only chance to have the whole show on dvd. If either of these two shows do get official releases from nick, of course I will buy both of them without hesitation.

As for Are you afraid of the dark, Direct Source actually has released official seasons (currently 1 - 4) and I plan on buying those official releases. Not only for the great quality but to show my support and hopefully they will continue to release more seasons and more shows the right way.

...That's all. I just wanted to share my experience and let people know about the quality beforehand.

Now get it right, or pay the price!

I read your comment about it on the Salute Your Shorts page and was wondering if you've bought anything else and what the quality was like.

I came across the site and want to buy some stuff but don't know if I really trust the quality.

Thanks in advance.

Bootlegs are not good enough. Why does Salute Your Shorts not have an official release? Nothing short of a travesty in my book.

But if you go to ioffer.com the complete series (bootleg) is available for like $8
