I was just thinking about it and they are similar...
Dina is spoiled and girly like Rachel
Telly is competitive like Monica
ZZ is earthy like Phoebe
Michael is good-looking like Joey
Budnick is like a mean Chandler
Sponge is brainy like Ross
Donkeylips is Roy Gublik!!

I personally think they all have personalities that most kids our age then could relate to, just like they had different personalities on Friends..

lol. I thought the same thing. Both shows came around at the same time. I'm guessing the OP meant that Salute Your Shorts was the Friends for our age group at that time.

Champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends.
