Anyone been to the filming location?

Looks like it's some Boy's Camp in Griffith Park. I'd love to see pictures of what it looks like today.

Can't find much on google picture wise. Griffith Park looks fairly large and the "Boy's Camp" section doesn't really seem to show much on google earth.

I know a lot of films have been filmed in this park but I'm more curious about the cabins and and what not.

Has anyone ventured out there at all?

I am pretty sure I remember reading that this area of the park burned during one of the wildfires in California, so there might not be much to see.

I just checked out the location today, unfortunately, it looked like it was a no trespassing area. I asked the park ranger if it's open to public and he said no. Maybe I'll call the actual camp and they'll be a little more lenient, besides, it's the fall, I don't think the camp is going on. Though I'll admit, it does sound a little fishy having a 24 year old guy asking if he can walk around "Boy's Camp".

I was watching the espiode of Sara Madre and the scene where they're digging for the treasure the first time, it looked pretty familiar from where I was at.

To clarify, the outdoor scenes of the show were shot at the Griffith Park Boys Camp. Scenes involving the lake were shot at the William O. Douglas Outdoor Classroom near Beverly Hills. Attempting to visit these locations is largely fruitless, as you may vaguely recognize a basketball court or baseball diamond, but there's not much else to see. The buildings that you're familiar with (especially the interiors) are nowhere to be found.

The familiar cabin exteriors used in the establishing shots are still a mystery, but I've heard they're somewhere up in the Pacific Palisades. You'll notice they use the same few shots of the cabin exteriors in almost every episode, so it's possible this was just stock footage that was acquired or at the very least, they went to this location, shot a few minutes of footage (day & night) and never returned, reusing it throughout the series.

Contrary to what most people think, the interior scenes (dining hall, cabin interiors, etc) were all sets. They were built on a large, enclosed soundstage far away from Griffith Park in Sun Valley. The girls & boys cabin interiors, plus the main lodge area were sets within this one soundstage. When production ended, these sets were struck and as the show has been out of production 20+ years, obviously on longer exist.
