shareLol yeah. the 90s had a lot of things on there kid shows that seemed wrong but that what makes me like them that much more
shareYeah this is pretty much what I miss about 90's nick shows, they always were right on the border of inappropriate but it pretty much went over the younger kids head so it did not real damage but gave the older audience something to laugh about.
Now we are so over protective and pretty much wrap our children in bubble wrap before they walk out the door that things like this don't fly and edge for nick is someone saying an almost curse word then saying another word over top of it followed by a lame laugh track.
Also I think Sponge Bob may be the only "go a little further" than the rest show there is on nick now.
They actually said "hell" on Clarissa explains it all, and "you cant say that on television" and also ren and stimpy were really edgey, I remember them squeezing a creamy substance out of a dead fishes "penis" on to a slice of bread.
Yes!!! I remember that!! No one else seems to though, seems like Nick had a Disney type of humor back then.
shareIt wasn't until I saw a thread on this board a few years back that I finally got what it meant. When I was a kid, I thought to myself "Why on earth would there be a machine that sells balloons in an outhouse?". Then I saw vending machines in a public bathroom selling breath fresheners, condoms, and such.
All I need is one mic...
hahaha that reminds me of another episode where Donkey Lips flips off a cop when Ug and the kids are on their way to the beach. Ug's like" which finger did he hold up?" lol
shareI believe the phrase they use is that he gave the officer "half a peace sign."
"Which half?" asks Ug nervously, and then the cop turns on his sirens, lol.
Also in one episode I believe Sponge says "pissed off."
In the '80s and early '90s, material aimed at kids was a bit more daring. Heck, The Wizard contains references to pedophilia (the girl screams that the investigator "touched her" to get him off their trail) and Hocus Pocus has a lot of references to sex. And there's quite a bit of violence in The Monster Squad (rated PG-13, but obviously aimed at kids).
