Michael Bower Announces Salute Your Shorts Reunion Special for 2011

On his official Facebook page, facebook.com/heybower, Michael Bower aka Donkey Lips announced that for 2011, in time for the 20th anniversary, there is some sort of special reunion show in the works. He hasn't released any other details yet.

Hope it actually ends up happening...

Yeah I'd like to see it happen . . . (and since Michael Bower said it himself, I'd take it seriously).

Anyhow, should it come to pass . . what would you all like it to be?

Salute Your Shorts - Back to Camp?
Salute Your Shorts - Where are they know? (they'd do fictional 'where are they now' type profiles on what the kids have done since their time at Anawanna)

As cool as it would be, I'd much rather have the shows on DVD.

I'm really curious what they would do. I mean, I'd love to see any reunion, I'm just not sure what they'd try to do. Maybe they can have a 'campers reunion' episode where they all come back to the camp for a reunion. although they all seem a bit old to be giving each other awful waffles now and creating hijinx. I don't know, maybe a scavenger hunt, or some competition could be the driving plot. if they can bring back that charm, ambiance, and cheesy and odd sense of humor, I'd love to see it.

as a sidenote, I wonder what ug looks like these days.

As much as I'd like to see them all together again, I wouldn't want want to see them do an episode as an older version of their characters. What would they possibly do? We know them as mischievous, preteen campers who were just trying to survive another summer at camp. What realistic scenario could writers put them in that would allow them to return to their old ways and still be as entertaining as they were during the show's short run? And what network would be airing this show? Nickelodeon is children's network and these actors would be pretty old and unrecognizable to Nickelodeon's young viewers.

Is this something that would be created specifically for a Salute Your Shorts DVD? I was a huge fan of Salute Your Shorts when i was younger, but I'm not sure that it was that big of a phenomenon to warrant a huge reunion special.

Champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends.

I'm not able to see his Facebook, but I was curious if he's posted anything else about this--release date, what it will be, how it will be distributed? I'd love to see more about the campers... I'd even be happy with some official DVD release with a group commentary similar to the Goonies.

Maybe this could be start of the process to see Salute Your Shorts finally getting a (Legal) Dvd release.

reply

on his myspace he posted a link to the news about it airing on teen nick and wrote official dvd this summer. the link doesnt mention the dvd though. fyi - there are several episodes on amazon video on demand, but not all, which seems odd. do they not have the original tapes anymore?

reply

If this is true, a faux documentary would be about the only way I could see this happening. Of course this would be the perfect opportunity to release the series as well.

"You've shown your quality sir. The very highest."

reply

well it is airing in re-runs on Nick's sister channel TeenNick this fall on their 90s block "the 90s are all that"

Maybe on "the 90s are all that", cast from the old shows will introduce them

reply

Well, so far it's getting close to being the end of 2011. Granted, we still have a little more than three months to go before it's 2012 but has anyone heard anything more about this?

reply

It aint happening according to his twitter.

I knew it was too good to be true. It would be nice if the old cast would do something for a dvd release, but to get the old cast together to do a reunion or an what ever happened to them type of show on tv, I don't think would work because the young viewers don't know them and SYS wasn't that big outside of Nick. I don't thiink the whole cast would come back together either because they all went their separate ways and some have left acting.
