Anybody else HATE the theme song?

I checked out the first few seasons of HI from my library, and had no idea the theme music was as horrible as it is! For one thing the jackhammer noise makes my fillings hurt, and it seems like it goes on for at least ten minutes. Glad it was greatly shortened in future seasons and for syndicated showing. When the disc menu comes up, if you don't 'select' something immediately (God help you if you've misplaced your remote and can't get up to push buttons) because the jackhammer noise just goes on and on til you lose your mind. Horrible theme music, horrible disc setup. At least the show was usually funny. Like the pilot very much.

I also hated that theme song. Along with the excessively long intro. I usually just mute or change the channel when it came on. Sucks to hear about that in the DVD set.

I agree. Didn't care for the theme song. I love a good theme song, 90's had some of the best. Sad thing is nowadays they don't have theme songs at all anymore :-( Networks got greedy. They realized they can sell that time instead... It really sets the mood for the show and introduces the characters/ actors. I'd love to see them bring back theme songs.

reply

I liked it....it grew on me. I do agree about theme songs today they just make them as long or don't have any at all. I mean I like to be introduce to the actors/actress instead of having to look them up on imdb.com.

reply

Don't particularly like it, but it's obviously in keeping with the "Tool Man" theme...ie. the sound of tools. They cut it shorter after the 1st couple seasons. Guessing they realized that it annoyed some viewers...*LOL*

Oh my God yes, IMO it's the worst theme song in television history. I like putting on various disks to watch and fall to sleep to; for this reason HI rarely makes my list, especially after S-1 when they moved the theme from the top to after the first act. AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!

I only have one person on ignore, but I've had to ignore him 625 different times.

Lol I do the same thing indy--and I really hate prehistoric disks such as early seasons of MASH without a "Play All" option. How much extra would that have cost huh? Also wish EVERYTHING were closed-captioned, especially now in my old age when I have a hard time distinguishing dialog because the freaking background music is so LOUD

reply

haha I wouldn't say it's the worst. I disliked the original Boy Meets World theme song and Seinfeld's just as much as HI's.

reply

They suck too

reply

I agree. I always fast forward through the intro cause I hate that theme. I also agree with Jupiter about the theme in the first 2 seasons of Boy Meets world. I have to admit it does sound kind of like the themes of educational computer games of the time.

Green Goblin is great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1L4ZuaVvaw

I skip the intro just to get to the episode faster. I never thought of the music's quality one way or the other.

reply

Joe is right on that point. If you hit the skip button, it'll take you right to the start of the 2cd scene (or first in S-1.)

Btw, HI dvds do have play all and subtitles. Unfortunately it's filmed live so you can't get rid of the audience noise.

As TV themes songs go, it is one of the worst.

When I first saw this thread I was shocked because I remembered the theme song being classic. But man was I blinded by nostalgia. I just watched the intros for all the seasons on YouTube and the theme song just blows. I enjoy the hell out of the intro they used for seasons 4-6, though.

reply

It certainly is one of a kind, for which we can be grateful.

reply

It was horrible. Just a lot of random noises, and Tim making that idiotic grunting gasp. Makes me glad there's a mute button on the remote.
