The siblings of Tim and Jill
I remember Tim and Jill had a lot of siblings, Jill all sisters and Tim all brothers. Is this right? For some reason I'm having a hard time looking it up.

shareI believe it's Flying Sauces where Brad and Randy bully Mark and Tim's brother Steve. He ain't heavy, he's irresponsible is the first appearance of Marty. No Place Like Home is the first appearance of Jeff. I'm pretty they mentioned more brothers, but it was ended up just being Marty, Jeff and Steve having multiple mentions.
Luck be a Taylor tonightis the first appearance of Robin played by Amy Ryan. Brothers and Sisters is the first apperance of Carrie. Jilly and her Sisters is the first apperance of Linda and Tracie.
So five sisters and four (but really more) brothers. I recall him mentioning some stupid-high number of brothers once but can't quite remember.
That whole thing was always weird to me. Lol...thank you for the info!
Yeah that was a bit weird. Plus they both have so many siblings it's hard to keep track of them.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.
It was strange since Jill came from a family of sisters, but married Tim who came from a family of brothers, and they had three sons and no daughters
shareIt was like whoever was in charge of character backstory didn't know how to write a brother/sister relationship. It's not impossible for this dynamic to occur, but it seems very unusual and I wonder why they went with it.

Yes i agree. It actually kinda bothered me. Lol
shareI wanted to see them all together.
shareI know this post is old but I just rewatched the whole series. Yes, Jill had all sisters and Tim had all brothers, though the number of each and names of them are changed throughout the series.
Jill's sisters: It's fairly consistently mentioned that Jill has four sisters, all of whom are shown at some point in the series: Robin, Carrie, Linda and Tracy. However, before we meet them all, there is frequent mentions of a sister named Katie, and another sister named Carol is mentioned in one episode as well. Then oddly, in the last season (after we've met all of Jill's sisters), Jill's mother says she has four daughters instead of five. Seemed like a strange inconsistency to have so far into the series after all five Patterson girls had been shown on screen at some point.
Tim's brothers: I believe Tim mentions once that he has four brothers, and then another time he mentions having five brothers. The only ones we ever meet are Marty and Jeff, but as someone else mentioned, a brother named Steve is mentioned a few times. The names of his other brothers were never consistent. Throughout the series, the names given on one-off occasions were Danny, Brian, John and Rick.
That's super helpful! Thank you!
I get so annoyed with plot inconsistencies in shows, things that are big and should be easy to keep track of. The thing about Jill's mother mentioning four daughters is weird. And, yes, it's still strange to me that it so happens that there were a lot of kids in both families, one side all boys and the other side all girls.
I agree. Things like that bother me too. If you're going to do something like that (giving both Jill and Tim multiple siblings), then commit to it at the beginning, and keep track of who's who and how many there are. If you can't keep it consistent, then just give Jill and Tim one or two siblings each and call it a day. It's the same as things like character birthdays. How hard is it to pick a date and write it down somewhere so it stays the same throughout the show?
I imagine the writers wanted Jill and Tim to have multiple siblings because it opened up more potential storylines down the road. And when it originally aired, people wouldn't remember mentions from several years ago so it probably wasn't seen as a big deal. But with things like syndication (and now DVD releases of series), it's quite weird to watch some of the earlier episodes and hear mentions of siblings whose names change upon every reference.
