Jim Jinkins prefers the original Doug

Anyone read the new Nickelodeon book called Slimed? Apparently, Billy West isn't the only one to prefer the original series. Series creator Jim Jinkins does as well. He also confessed to not paying more attention to the Disney series.

Even Constance Schulman, voice of Patti, agrees the original series was better.

Wow, I never thought he'd admit that. Any chance you could post a quote from him on it?

reply

Unfortunately, I don't have the book with me. I only read it while I was browsing my local Barnes & Noble. But believe me, it's in there.

Many people have criticized the new Doug, but seem to be kinder towards PB & J Otter, Jim's other series for Disney.

reply

Was anybody else involved with Doug interviewed about it in the book?

reply

I remember Fred Newman and Bob Pomann being interviewed. Bob Pomann's facilities in New York served as the voice recording studios for both Nickelodeon and Disney versions.

Caved in and bought it. Has quotes from Billy West, Fred Newman, Becca Lish, Connie Shulman, Doug Preis, Jim Jinkins, David Campbell, Bob Pomann, Ken Scarborough, Tony Eastman, and Yvette Kaplan.

What kind of disappoints me is it's obvious the author got a lot more information from all the people he interviewed, but he had to leave a lot of it out in the book. I've even seen an extra excerpt posted on facebook about Billy West's talent, with quotes from some cast members and others who worked with him.

Anyway, Lish says she thinks Shulman also initially auditioned for Skeeter. Kind of funny how they seemingly initially envisioned Skeeter as being voiced by a female voice actor.

Well, I'm glad they were honest enough to agree with almost everyone in the world. Seriously, I love Disney to death, but they don't need to own EVERYTHING in the world...and when I think of Doug, only the original series comes to mind. Well, and the movie, too, because I happen to own it. But although I saw the Disney-made episodes on TV, they were just not the same, and not half as memorable.

reply

The Nickelodeon Doug is much better. but the Disney Doug is ok.
