I noticed that whenever Doug needed advice, he always went to Judy or Mr. Dink. Mostly Mr. Dink. I hardly ever remember him going to his father and I don't think he ever went to his mother. It seemed like Mr. Dink was a very good friend to Doug. I wish I had neighbors like Mr. Dink.
Mr. Dink almost seemed like Doug's Father. He spent more time with Mr. Dink than he did with his parents. Maybe his parents were working a lot and Mr. Dink was all he had.

I agree. Mr. Dink was a good friend to Doug. When he found out that Doug and Skeeter were doing all that work trying to raise the money to buy him a new grill, he realized what good friends they were to him. Whenever Doug had a problem, he always went to Mr. Dink. Mr. Dink and Tippy had no children of their own. That could've also been a reason why he was so close with Doug. When Mr. Dink wanted Doug to take over as Hamburger Boy, he told Doug that he was like a son to him. Doug kind of was.

I don't remember Doug going to Mr. Dink for advice too often. He usually confided in Skeeter. I think they wanted to show the disconnect from adults kids who reach Doug's age tend to have and show Doug figuring things out on his own. The times when Doug does go to his dad for advice, they're usually not on the same page. They have awkward encounters where Doug's Dad misunderstands him and Doug misunderstands his Dad.
He always went to Mr. Dink for advice. He was very close with Mr. Dink. There were a few times when his Dad gave him advice. There was the time when he wanted money his grandmother gave him to save to mail for that scam contest. Doug didn't listen. There was also the time when he tried talking to his father in the episode when he buys the stolen Man O' Steel Man comic. He usually went to Mr. Dink for help. Mr. Dink would either advise him or try to help him with some contraption. He went to Mr. Dink a lot, but a few examples I can remember are when he had a zit and went to Mr. Dink for help, he wanted to get in shape fast and went to Dink for help, and there was the time when he thought he was going to Pattie's for dinner to eat liver and onions. When he was having nightmares about that movie The Abnormal, he asked Mr. Dink what to do. He did confide in Skeeter, but he was good friends with Mr. Dink too.
There was also that episode when Doug thinks his bike was stolen and he goes to Mr. Dink. I remember when Mr. Dink was showing him all of his high tech security stuff and Doug started acting crazy and Mr. Dink says to him, "Douglas, are you insane?" lol
I don't know, to me that's not really going for "advice" - it was going to Mr. Dink to see if one of his gadgets could help him with his problem, since Mr. Dink always had the latest "very expensive" products (that usually didn't work).
Yeah, but remember Doug's Nightmare on Jumbo Street? He went to Mr. Dink to ask him what he should do about his nightmares. In the end, Mr. Dink inspired him to face his fear.
