I think the time is right for a return...

With all of the television work Disney has out now from "Phineas and Ferb" to "Gravity Falls" to all of its Marvel shows, I think that it's TV animation division is going strong. I think Disney should consider doing a direct-to-TV movie of "Darkwing Duck" to test the waters to see if their older titles still have appeal. Personally, I think they do.

I think "The Duck Knight Returns" comic book storyline put out a few years ago by Boom Studios would be a great story to adapt...DW has been gone for a year and a corporation takes over St. Canard with an army of robots that have kept the criminal element in check. However, the company has secrets and something happens that forces DW to return as "the terror that flaps in the night."

That said, there are probably rights issues involved and all kinds of stuff that would make if difficult to accomplish with that storyline.

However, I think a new Darkwing Duck feature has potential if a good story can be found.

The revived comic series was popular with a lot of people. It was only cancelled when Disney and Marvel merged.

I think there is an audience for this. If it is popular, more can be made and Disney can branch out with its other Disney Afternoon shows.

The ending of "The Duck Knight Returns" would make a good segway to another popular Disney show that would be ripe for revival.

Can you imagine the marketing? A brief scene shown on Disney Channel where we see a rainswept street and a shadow darting through the scene and then it resolves into the classic DW appearance. The words appear on on screen... "Let's get dangerous." Fall, Spring or Summer 20??.

What do people think?

One of the reasons I suggested a direct-to-DVD movie for a return of Dawkwing Duck is Warner Bros. has had huge success with DTV movies with their DC Animated Universe releases as well as their direct-to-DVD animated movies featuring Scooby-Doo.

Disney or Marvel has not had much luck with those kind of features. Disney was doing mostly sequels to its animated classics that met with mixed results in some circles. Some of the Marvel DTV movies were good (Iron Man and Planet Hulk), but they just did not seem to be as popular as their DC counterparts. I would love to see animated features from the people doing the current Marvel shows on the Disney TV networks.

I think Darkwing Duck is the perfect candidate for a DTV feature. First, it is a title that people remember fondly. The comic book series put out by Boom Studios was very popular with a lot of people. I watched a number of video reviews of it on YouTube and other video sites. In some cases, certain issues and stories were some people's pick-of-the-week above all the other popular comic book stuff out there.

DW was a television series. It originally found its audience on TV and I think people would return if the Disney folks put out a new production. The "Phineas and Ferb" movie showed that such a venture would be possible, taking a tv property and doing a made-for-tv movie.

I think the time would be great to bring back Darkwing Duck.

100% agreed.

In fact, they should bring back Darkwing Duck, DuckTales, and Rescue Rangers.

I wouldn't mind seeing them cross over into Kingdom Hearts, either.

Don't forget "TaleSpin"...

I think any of those would make a good DTV movie. If popular, more can be made. I picked "Darkwing Duck" first because I thought it would have a wide fanbase to pull from.

Yes, now is the time to bring back the Mighty Masked Mallard. We want him to come back and strike fear into the hearts of evil-doers once more, for old time's sake,
