Does any girl or woman like this animation serial?

I guess, none. How can a girl or a woman like a cartoon with:

1) extreme violence (yes, without blood, but still, awesome extreme violence);
2) maniacs (damn, can you name any other kid's cartoon with such variety of twisted individuals with massacre on their mind?);
3) weird technology and science represented in the form of insane meta-world?

Well, any girls to say ‘I like it!’ here?

Yes.

1) It's violent, but I don't mind. I've seen shows with far worse violence than this. It's just a cartoon, and the violence sometimes provides some of the comedy.
2) The villains are funny and unusual. I love Negaduck's obsession with mayhem. He loves his job, and that's always fun to watch.
3) I'm a bit of a science geek, so technology is always cool with me.

Besides that, I love that this show is so literate - Darkwing's alliterations come to mind. I love Darkwing and Gosalyn's high-spirited personalities, and their sweet father/daughter relationship. I love the beautiful animation. I love the voice artists - just yesterday I enjoyed this scene:

Morgana: "I could share facts about spores and slime molds."
Darkwing: "Oh, I'd like that. Sort of."

Just love how he says "sort of." I love this silly, funny, dramatic show and it'll always be my favorite cartoon - maybe even my favorite show of all time.

I am a sixteen-year-old girl, and I agree with everything the user before me posted. To the original poster, do YOU like this series? I couldn't tell from the post whether you do or not...

Good Morning, dear Ms "underdogfan710",

Did you see my reply "Re: The unabridged list of “DwD” villains" on these boards? I said it all there. And also, if you have time, look up my commenting the title.

By the way, I took the quotes right from the cartoon (my "signatures" on this board).

Dear Ms "cosmo7",

Yes, I get it. And that's why I'm so unhappy that I don't have the official DVDs (with English soundtrack and subs) in my collection. Of course the national sound is also cool and tongue-in-cheek... but I'm sure it cannot rival the original. Therefore I’m in a mood similar to Megavolt’s.

Andrei

Dear Mrs "celestial_moongoddess",

Because a usual woman is surely to like Walt Disney's "Mermaid" with all that soft atmosphere, reasonable dialogues, little pretty characters, and "for-all-audience" material. At least I think so. But "DwD"? Come on, it's bonkers from top to toe, from beak to claw. Some of the scenes happen in a graveyard and the show gets to such gloom subjects as heaven and hell, death, torture, massacre, black magic, maniacal behaviour, etc.

Glad to see that you like it, though...

Not all females prefer softness, prettiness, and happiness. Some like crazy stuff, and some like dark stuff. Me, I'm in the middle. I can appreciate either one...as long as it's not *too* soft or *too* dark.

reply

Completely agree with that. Females aren't a huge uniform species like those alien clones in the episode "U.F. Foe" - they have different interests and wants.

I enjoy dark and disturbing as much as light and funny, because it's a fun emotional roller coaster ride either way. I'm more into music now, and I like the dark songs - "Der Kommissar" and "Mirror In the Bathroom" - just as much as I like the light happy songs - "Waiting For a Star to Fall" and "Love Shack." I'm 28, by the way (since other people are mentioning their ages).

Actually I thought they were, dear Mrs "cosmo7", with an exception of 2 tiny groups:

1) the gals of the first one are enjoying "Devil's Rejects" and decorate their body with metal chips;
2) the gals of the other are very noisy and fond of "Darkwing Duck" and "Batman".

Thanks for an eye-opener - now my usual working mood is disoriented a bit...

Those two groups sound similar to me, and what happened to the group that fawns over The Little Mermaid? I was annoyed with the sexism and thought you were being condescending, so that's why I brought up clones. You're the one that started off this thread by assuming that all females were the same, anyway - how about no more slotting them/us into convenient categories and we can get along then?

reply

Agree with your Negaduck reaction, Mrs "cosmo7".

Sorry. Perhaps I just don't understand foreign mentality and next time I'll go and practice my English before getting into categories thing. "Sexism" is also a new notion to me. We don't have such words in our vocabulary.

Still, I'm quite excited that there are girls on this planet who enjoy "Darkwing Duck".

I know more girls who are fans of the series than boys.

Most of my friends who roleplay Darkwing Duck and draw artwork are females. In fact there's about a dozen females and one make in our Darkwing Duck fandom :p So I would go so far as to say that that there are more involved female fans than males!

What are you talking about!! I loved that show and I am a girl.

Why yes I do! I love that mysterious masked crime-fighter so much! He has such a dark, mysterious voice! Disney has put the "dark" in Darkwing Duck!

Keen gear!

I, too, know many more women who enjoy DWD than I know men who enjoy it. I'm 28 and I watched this show back when it was first on the air, every day after school on Disney Afternoon plus Saturdays on ABC. As an adult I've bought the DVDs and still think it's freaking hilarious. My favourite episode is Liquidator's origin episode, with the singing lobster women and the THINGCUTTER!

Anyway, stereotyping women is absolutely retarded. I'm surprised you like this show at all, AndreiPavlov, since Gosalyn is such a freethinking tomboy who likes violent alien invasion movies and hockey. I guess the show's lessons in that area were lost upon you.
