Pilot Episode?

I can't find the pilot episode in the episode list. Is it missing or misfiled?

reply

The Pilot episode is the 2 part episode A Matter of Life and Death, Parts I & II. They weren't the first episodes aired, they were the 5th & 6th.

On the new 2010 Mill Creek DVD set they are listed as Episode 5 : The Commish - Pilot, not as A Matter of Life and Death. They also run as one 1 hr 1/2 episode not as two 45 min. episodes.

I go online sometimes, but everyone's spelling is really bad. It's...depressing.

I'm really confused. I just purchased season 1 & 2 and I started season 1 with the pilot episode. I read the previous post just as the episode was ending and figured I would jump to the first aired episode next. At the end of the pilot, the newspaper article read that a new commish had been selected so Scali didn't get the job. In the episode I'm watching now, they are calling him the commish. Did I miss something? Am I not watching them in the right order? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

He was already commissioner for Eastbridge, but in the "pilot" episode, he was a candidate for Police Commissioner of New York (city). That's the job he didn't get.

Does it matter which order they are watched?

Is it better to watch Episode 5 - The Pilot - first, or in aired order, or does it really not matter?

Just about to start on the series and I'd like to give it its best. Any advice would be appreciated.

It doesn't mess anything up to watch them in the order they were aired. The pilot has a slightly different feel to it, but the characters and situations weren't really changed in any important way. The supporting characters changed throughout the series: Chief of Detectives was Irv, then Paulie, then Cyd, then Paulie again. Randazzo was the major "regular cop" for part of the 1st season, then disappeared without explanation. Carmela left after 2 seasons, Stan was killed off at the end of the 3rd season.

Many Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll probably watch them in aired order then. Sometimes I feel it can be a chore working through feature pilots. Sometimes its necessary, but other times they are more enjoyable once you are familiar with the cast and characters. But it can be difficult to know which case applies to each series.

Thanks again!
