About the DVD's.....

am i right in thinking that the wrong opening credits are used on the dvd?

I though those were the 2/3 reries opening?

Maybe im wrong, its been 10 odd years since i last watched Clarissa on TV

reply

Yeah I was thinking that too. They look kind of old in the opening credits compared to the episodes.

On disc 2, "Sick Days" is the only episode that has the original opening credits intact. She wears a werewolf suit and everything. Very sexy.

There are no color problems on the Clarissa DVD's. This is exactly the way they first looked. I'm surprised that the video quality didn't degrade in fourteen years. Excellent reconstructive surgery. The show was always visually loud, with bright colors and patterns. This is much like Pee Wee's Playhouse. That was just what things looked like in those days, like a Dire Straits Video gone berserk. You only notice it now because you've been exposed to so much more stuff since those days.

Also on the Nick Time Capsules 1991-1993, the clips they have listed which included:

1. Lockers

2. Uneven Bars

3. Funky Dance

4. Pinchface

5. Disco Dogs

6. Barnyard

7. Bones

8. Opera

9. Wacky Paper Chase

of which 8 play during the play all, and the one that dosen't play during play all is Wacky Paper Chase, but it will play fine if you just select it from the menu. On a side note, I actually remember most of these clips when they were first on.

Man, I can't wait to get this on DVD; I'm ordering it tonight. I really hope Nick/Viacom gets their heads out of their asses and continue the Rewind Collection; I just gor Pete & Pete Season 1 and I forgot how much I love all these shows and it just seems so retarded that they would just abandon the releases. Hopefully we will get the remaining seasons of Clarissa soon.

Regarding the opening credits thing, I think that a lot of the episodes had the original intro replaced with the one everyone has seen before. At least one episode has the original one intact. Maybe if Season 2 is ever released we can get more bonus features on the DVD like promos and retrospectives and stuff. It could happen.

I'm so excited about getting the DVD - it's a good deal too only $15 on amazon. I got the Pete and Pete seasons when they first came out but forgot about this show. I was listening to Mindless Self Indulgence and heard their song about Clarissa Explains it all...halarious. But yeah, i'd never find the dvd in any store around me so i'm getting it online. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007Y08LK/?tag=amazon-products-20

It's nice to see a few DVD's are selling, but I doubt it'll do any good now (not that it ever would have because Nickelodeon are a bunch of bitches who would have canned the releases anyway). I didn't get the DVD's until January/February (both Clarissa and Pete & Pete) but now I'm dedicated to finding a way to continue the rewind releases, especially because Pete & Pete and Clarissa are probobly my two fravorite Nick shows ever. I geek out whenever I see the intros and such; it's kind of sad but whatever. I love the DVD though; aside from a few issues I thought it was well put together and had a few good extras. Makes you wonder what could have been included had the releases continued. This can't be the end.

omg.. i really want seasons 2-5 of this on DVD!!! make it happen!!!

reply

yeah bring on the other seasons!

Yes I just came here to post that it bugs me that they used the wrong credits. Even in the reruns on Nick, they always used to second set of opening credits for first season reruns, even though the first one was far superior. I wish the DVD had included the right credits for all the episodes.

e.e I've been trying to figure this one our for a while. Thing is, theres nothing we can really do other than get people to buy them, but knowing Nickelodeon they probobly won't care enough to release them regardless (they actually stopped when they switched presidents, so...yeah).

What bothers me the most is that they really have nothing loose; despite airing nothing but crap the past decade they're still one of the most bankable corperations in the country. Releasing DVD's for they're former audiance would both be generous and profitable if only in slight. The other thing is that a lot of these shows were made for the same audiance: Pete & Pete, Rocko, everything, if they actually play them on the netowrk and familiarize the kids a few will deffinately get into it and want them as well. Clarissa, while a personal favorite and extremely witty, was somewhat derived on pop culture so shows like that may not fly, but it's still worth a shot. Pete & Pete and Clarissa are my two favorite Nick shows ever, this is just rediculous.

reply

Yeah, I completely agree. I remember watching shows like Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch, etc when I was a kid, and I had no idea that these were old shows, and it didn't matter, because I had never seen them, so they were new to me. Kids don't care if a show is old or new, they care if it's entertaining or not. I remember not too long ago (around 2005), Disney reran "Sister, Sister". Sure, it was from the mid 90s and some aspects were dated, but kids still watched it and they reran it for years. So I hope that Nickelodeon starts using some of these assets they own, and it's not like they are over scheduled. There are about 20 reruns of Spongebob everyday on Nickelodeon, they could cut that down to 15 and show 5 old shows. And I was just watching a Clarissa episode, and they made references to The Cosby Show, Full House, and the Simpsons. I'm sure 95 percent of kids today have seen these shows, just because of how much they're syndicated. So alot of the pop culture references are still relevant.
