2014

I know Hart said there won't be a reunion. But how perfect would it be for there to be one in 2014? Because of what Clarissa said at the end of the series where she asked where will we be in 20 years?

At least the creator is writing a novel about what happened to Clarissa after the show...set to come out in 2014. I'm not sure how to feel about it, personally. On the one hand, reunion shows tend to be lame so hopefully this will be better. However, for me anyway, the real charm of the show was Melissa's charismatic portrayal and the fact that she took us into her world and talked to us rather than the actual writing itself.

I just hope the book stays true to the tone and spirit of the show. First person perspective, random tangents/references, all that good stuff. It should feel almost like we're reading her diary in a sense, otherwise it just wont feel like Clarissa.

You think it was intentional to have it lined up with Clarissa's final article for the school newspaper about where they will be in the next 20 years?

reply

Here's the article: http://shelf-life.ew.com/2013/03/22/clarissa-explains-it-all-things-i- cant-explain/. It sounds like it wont match up with the last episode unfortunately, because supposedly she'll only be in her early 20's.

The plot sounds pretty cliche and boring, but so were the basic outlines of most episodes of the show, with Clarissa's perspective being the main source of entertainment and humor. Hopefully the book will be in that vein.

Yeah it all came down to how Clarissa was written to deal with the sitation. A lot of the plots on the show have been done before but the writing put a new spin on it.

reply

Exactly. With the exception of a few "out there" episodes like "Ferguson Explains It All" or some ground-breaking (in terms of getting it past censorship) episodes like "Life of Crime" (better known as the lingerie episode) Clarissa was typical teen fare but with a twist--it was about a "regular" girl (as opposed to the overly-sexualized girls on kids shows these days) and we're getting the story from her perspective.

Someone needs to come a long and create a good family sitcom like we had in the 80s and 90s.

The '90s really was the best decade for TV. Sitcoms like Clarissa, Seinfeld and Boy Meets World really found that sweet spot where they were enjoyable for kids and adults, were creative yet relatable, and just found a way to make real life fun.
