when sam came over...

what was the deal with the little sound that was made every single time that sam came through that window? it started in the pilot episode and never stopped. some people might hate it, but i thought it was hilarious and to me it remains one of the many mysteries of this great show from my childhood years...

I always wondered the same exact thing. She was like "Hi Sam!" and then that little sound was played every time. Maybe it was like an exclamation point on Sam's grand entrance or maybe it was just to make sure the viewer was paying attention. I always thought it sounded kind of bland and dorky though as if trying to portray Sam as like a dork or something.

That noise is the reason Clarissa's parents never cared Sam always snuck into her room. Because he has theme music. The house was constantly aware of his actions and if he and Clarissa ever got a little too frisky, her parents would hear "bow-chicka-bow-wow" and come running upstairs.

Haha right on bro!

Sam's chord is a D7 with tension 9. Here it is in tab:

---4---

---x---

In case anyone cares to know.

reply

I always found it annoying, even as a kid.

reply

Maybe it was a way to set the mood for his entrance. He's laidback and kinda weird, like the music.

reply

Ha ha ha! I am so glad I found this topic on here. That music always made me laugh and still does, it's sooo cheesy. I would so have that as my theme tune if I ever had to choose one for when I walk into a room. Good times!

reply

Yeah, it was supposed to resemble his laidback attitude. Him slamming the ladder against Clarissa's window and Clarissa saying "Hi, Sam!" with the weird music is the most memorable part of the show to me. That and Ferguson.

Don't eva let nobody tell you you ain't strong enough

reply

lol it is very funny, and original .I haven't seen that happen on anything else, before or since then !.

The other day, I was in the car with my seven year old sister, and she randomly goes, "Why does Sam in Clarissa Explains It All always come in through the window?" Haaaahaaa. (I have the DVD, and my sisters and I all watch it together sometimes on weekends.)

I <3 TOTAL DRAMA WORLD TOUR! - Noah FTW!!! :]

In the book Slimed: An Oral History of Nickelodeon's Golden Age, they did it so 1, he didn't have to stop and talk to the parents on his way in, and 2, to get him to Clarissa faster so they could start interacting quicker, to show they were real friends and it wasn't sexual.

reply

he was totally a stoner and was always blazed when he came over. the music reflects him being baked and laid back

reply

You all got it wrong. That was the sound Clarissa's Chastity Belt made when it locked into position.

How the hell else would you let a teenage boy climb through your daughter's window?

reply

Haha, I'm glad someone else thinks the same thing.

I look forward to that part every show, and that was the one thing I remembered from it most vividly. (Though I also remembered Ferguson W. Darling lol)

But watching it again, pretty crazy he just came into her room like that all the time. =p Especially in the episode where they try dating... or like in this one I was watching, they randomly walk down the stairs together, and the parents don't even bat an eye. =p

reply

I was too busy m*sterbating to MJH sweet face to let it bother me. It's ok, she's 4 years older than me.

Laugh it up, fuzzball.

reply

All I'll say that if I were a teenage guy living next to Clarissa, I'd be taking advantage of that ladder...

reply

It's a leitmotif. If you've ever seen "Peter and the Wolf" or "Star Wars", you know that certain music follows certain characters.
