Love this show, but the ending for "Crush" was poor in my opinion.

I managed to catch this episode when Clarissa Explains It All briefly returned to Nickelodeon, not too long ago, and I have to say, that the ending to "Crush" doesn't really work, in my opinion.

The storyline is, Clarissa develops a crush on Flip the weatherman, and ends up being obsessed with weather and weather forecasting because of said crush. She eventually gets to go to the studio where he works, and gets to meet him. The scene is the usual ending to episodes where characters get to meet either their idols or celebrity crushes (or even both) turn out to jerks, or frauds, or something that makes them undeserving of having fans, same old, same old. However, while Flip was a jerk, that doesn't really feature into why Clarissa falls out of love with him...

Unless, I totally got the scene wrong, the reason Clarissa ends her crush is because he doesn't care about the weather that much, if at all. I may be wrong, but I don't think she says anything about his personality in that scene, so it seems like a weird ending to me. Hopefully, I'm wrong, and she did notice he was a jerk, and the weather thing was just the final nail in the coffin, as it were.

I just find it strange they'd set up a celebrity crush to be a bad person, and the take away is that he doesn't like what he's famous for (unless it's a joke).

I see where you're coming from. When Clarissa meets Flip, she suddenly doesn't like him because he actually doesn't care
about the weather and is just using it as a stepping stone. Problem is Clarissa seem to only care about the weather in the
first place because she liked Flip. I thought about the possibility that Clarissa ended up caring about the weather more and
more from watching Flip talk about it, but she sorta seems over it when she starts developing a crush on the sportscaster.

He was very self-absorbed and vapid, which was the major turnoff. I think the weather thing is more that she realized she only liked the IDEA of him, what she imagined him to be, than who he really was. It was a bit rushed and heavy-handed since its a kids show and only 22 minutes, but still pretty true to life. Like meeting your favorite singer or movie star, whom you imagine to really put their heart and soul into their craft, and it turns out they dont care about it at all. It makes you question everything else about them, and your attraction.
