God this show has some awful acting
especially the mom, sounded like she was reading her lines off cue cards.

shareMJH herself was fantastic I think, especially for her first major role. The kid who played Ferguson was good too. The parents are alright, with the dad being slightly better than the mom IMO. I think the real weak link is Sam and any other random kids brought into the show for one-off appearances. The kid who played Clifford was god-awful and embarrassing.

The acting is this show wouldn't win an Oscar but it's not THAT bad...You want to see 'bad acting' watch some other Nickelodeon shows like All That or The Secret World of Alex Mack....or even just some fondly remembered 90s shows like Goosebumps or Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. The acting in those shows is so bad it will ruin your childhood.

All That also has its strong and weak links. Theres a reason Kenan and Kel got their own show for example, and speaking of which the acting on their show was top notch.
I couldnt get thru a single episode of Alex Mack as an adult. So lame, so badly acted.
Power Rangers wasnt Nick, but I agree it sucks. I dont think Goosebumps was either, and no comment on the acting. Are You Afraid of the Dark was hit or miss in the acting category from what I remember.
I feel the need to stress that MJH was fantastic. She absolutely made this show what it is, and if she had no charisma it wouldnt have lasted two seasons.

Oh my God yes...lol. The mom sucked the most I agree she did seem like she was reading from some cards. The dad look so familiar like I seen him in some other movies he was ok, Ferguson was alright, Sam had his moments. Melissa Joan Hart was great of course and its amazing how she is the only one that went on to have some major success.
Someone mentioned Alex Mack...the parents on that show wasn't as bad as the parents on Clarissa. Meredith Bishop was pretty good as the older sister, the one I didn't really like was Robyn.
Goosebumps had some bad acting as well and some of the ones in Are You Afraid of The Dark was no better I think Goosebumps take the cake.
