I just got the english complete series 1-3 boxset and while reading the backs (yes, i do that!) i noted something odd when talking about the first christmas special 'Misery'. It says 'For Contractual reasons certain edits have been made'. I have an op soon so i won't be able to watch this all right now but i am wondering What the edits to that episode are?
mm.. there didn't seam to be any place with music that was changed... always seamed odd that they got the copyright to use it in the show but Not on the DVD release... very odd.. the only bits that i could have seen that might have been changed where the small film stock when they said what day it was.. maybe there was oringally a bit of music over that? it has been a long time since i saw that ep on TV in what might be an unedited form..

No it is actualy normal practice. Permision for tranmision coppies is completly diferent to permision for sale coppies. For instance a radio station plays songs, but they would be shot if they tried to sell them. Also it is not Contractual is not the same as Copyright (as I said previously it means that one label has the rights for sale coppies, and can refuse any other company regardless of money).

ah. i kinda figured that people like the BBC made the Major Mistake in the 70s of not thinking there would be any value in repeats and thus destored alot of there shows (the main ones hit really were Doctor Who, Adam Adment Lives and.. well, i know Dad's Army have now got a copy of all but 2 episodes) so they would know there would be resale in the form of VHS or such like form. There for a contract should be made where the music is cleared for this reason.. I guess companys aren't quite as ... smart as i though ^_^ or i guess the music side ones would have made sure that they get a small amount more for resale in form of VHS/DVD/new Media..
well.. Thanks for that, i am always intrested to learn more and learning comes in three forms, gathering knowledge (EG Reading a Book on computer repair), applying knowledge (Using what you learnt to repair a computer) and correcting knowledge (relising there is a better way or the book is wrong).
These "Worldwide" versions use different, and in my opinion less good pieces of background music. I very much wish these could have been retained for DVD (particularly in the case of the Christmas Episodes) but sadly it wasn't possible. AM
