Objective

What does the GHW hope to gain by killing all the children in the world? Children are simply young humans and without them the human race will eventually be destroyed. In both the book and the film it is presented that witches seem to be dependent on humanity--they eat human food, require human currency, wear clothes, drive cars, their supernatural powers don't go beyond eye lasers which only the GHW has, etc.--so what do they hope to achieve by wiping out the human race?

Good points lol I don't think we are meant to dig too deep though.

Witches hate children. They hate them. They make them sick. They want nothing more than to rid the world of children.

That's their motive and gain. Ridding the world of something they hate with a passion.

If their objective truly is to get rid of all children, then the Grand High Witches plan is all wrong. Instead of creating a formula to turn all children into mice, she should have created a formula that either stops sperm production in all men and/or causes all women to be unable to have children, and instead of putting it in candy, she should have come up with a plan to put it into the worlds water supply somehow to ensure it affects all people. A daunting task for sure, but a better plan than giving candy to children. If people are unable to reproduce, eventually the problem would be solved.

This is a children's story by Roald Dahl. Can you imagine the reaction to the Witches plan being to destroy sperm in men.

good point. also imagine trying to explain that through a child's book
