chinatown did have a great ending and i love the scene with jack and evelyn and its ends with her asking jack if he knows where the address is and he goes sure..its in chinatown or something like that.

but i thought this had better pacing and jack was a good director and i love the scene when he sits down and lights his smoke and then bomb.

but it does sound like the history behind this movie and the people behind the scenes would make a great movie.

If the milk turns out to be sour, I ain't the kinda pussy to drink it.

This is one of those movies that I watch repeatedly for one simple reason…I love Chinatown and want to like this film. Every time I watch Chinatown I want more, and I can either watch it again (as I often do) or pop in The Two Jakes. In all fairness The Two Jakes is an ok flick. Those who complain about its convoluted plot should consider that too this day I have no clue as to the ins and outs of Hawk’s The Big Sleep yet I (and most other people) consider this one of the greatest in the genre. In other words an overly complex plot/mystery is part of the genre….it’s the journey and not where your going. But I digress, In the end The Two Jakes is more akin to another sequel to another great film…Peter Hyams’ 2010. 2010 is a decent sci fi flick in its own right…but if you were foolish enough to think you could watch it back to back with its predecessor the late great Stanley Kurbrick’s 2001 then you are in for a severe disappointment. I think the same can be said in many respects about The Two Jakes.
