sharePretty sure it's a '49 Lincoln Cosmopolitan

With the meticulous attention to detail used in this film, I seriously doubt they'd have used a '49 car in a film set in '48...
shareNevertheless, it appears they did - only it was a Hudson rather than a Lincoln, as the post by Alogusz verifies.
Jake Berman does mention the date, "Oct 27, 1948" in the opening scene, so I guess the '49 models would have been out by then.

a 1949 Hudson Commodore 8 Convertible Brougham, estimated at $40,000 to $50,000, that was featured in the movie, "The Two Jakes". It sold for $41,800.

WHAT??? That gorgeous automobile only fetched $42K at auction? It must not have been running, or was wrecked, or something. I see the Christie's page goes into scant detail, more's the pity. What a ridiculously low price for such a fabulous vehicle! I could have sworn it was a post-war Mercury at first glance, and have lusted after it ever since I first saw it. I'd even take it in it's pristine condition over that '50 (Merc?) in the Stallone film Cobra!
shareThis car WAS gorgeous! It just sparkles!
Getting any car soon after the war wasn't easy for most people.
