Hickory Shaft Golf Clubs

I thought it was strange that during the golfing scene they used hickory shafted clubs. In 1948 Jake and Jake certainly had enough money that they would have switched to steel shafts.

And I know guys that still play with steel shaft clubs even though they can afford a new set of graphite shaft Pings. The first guy that tried in vain to get me to understand golf was still using a hickory shaft putter in 1991. People get nostalgic about things or sometimes just stick to what they know.
