Directing and starring in it was too much for a man Jack's age


Already about fifty-two, with no directoral experience, plus he has to act in it (and deal with numerous on-set rewrites, according to bios), no wonder it dragged. Nice production design but lacked the Polanski touch.

Well he did direct two movies prior to directing this one.

Plus he had experience of working with some of the greatest directors in the world. Probably more experience than the average first-timer. And age has been no determinant to other actor-directors like Woody Allen and Clint Eastwood.
