Melvin's parents

I keep seeing topics about where his parents are. Maybe I'm not entirely up to date on this or maybe people overlook it, but i always thought the guy that tried to hide from the Graboids on that tire was his father....

If not why the hell did Melvin act the way he did when the guy was taken?

Maybe his parents are out of town? He tried to act like a big shot so maybe he was banished to the area for being a douche?

reply

in now way shape or form was that comment useful.

I've already seen the EXACT comment on another topic...

According to a deleted line, Melvin's parents are vacationing in Las Vegas.

That was the first death Melvin saw... maybe first death ever. Before that, he was only told about the victims. It freaked him out to see it with his own eyes.

Agreed, Nester was on a structure similar to Melvin (weak foundation, could be knocked over easily). So he was freaking out because he was clearly going to be next. Nester was just another dude.

When it first shows the town of Perfection is says "Population: 14". Does it include Melvin and Mindy in this count? If so then all 14 people are accounted for and one of the adults there has to be Melvin's parents.

Edgar
Old Fred
Doc and Wife
Walter
Nester
Val
Earl
Burt and Heather
Nancy and Mindy
Miguel
Melvin

If the population count doesn't include Melvin and Mindy then it's possible that Melvin's parents aren't shown. But how someone figured on them being in Las Vegas is beyond me.

reply

The Doc and his wife just retired and moved there. So they might not have counted yet. Updating the sign isn't really urgent, ya know?

Besides Nestor's death being the first one seen by melvin up-close and personal, the camera zooms over really quickly to melvin's shed. I always took that to mean the graboid was coming for him next, and that's why he started crying and saying "You guys gotta do something!"

agreed. it was just a chance to show the transition of melvin from a smart-ass to a scared and vulnerable kid.

I remember reading somewhere that Melvin's parents went travelling a lot and weren't really around to take care of him so Nester sort of took care of Melvin when his parents where gone. Sort of like Nester was Melvin's dad in a way. So thats why Melvin reacted the way he did. Maybe.
