Tremors and My Cousin Vinny
Strangely, I see both these movies in very much the same light.
And that puts them in a rare category:
Movies that are Great but that you Expected to be Terrible.
This is NOT the So Bad It's Good category.
It's not the True Masterpiece category.
It's not the Cheesy Grade B and Stupid Plot category.
By all rights, reading the synopsis, understanding the target audience, and looking at similar movies in the genre, both these movies should have been straight to video garbage.
But they're not!
They actually shine brightly. They are models for many imitators, and they are both firmly entrenched as classics. I love both of them.
Their success has to do with witty writing, tight editing, interesting storyline, and most of all, indelible characters.
But I can't think of any other movies that fit in this category. There must be at least a few others.
Tell me if you agree with my comparison of Tremors with My Cousin Vinny.
