Emergency services

How long would it take for firemen, sheriffs or paramedics to reach Perfection? The town looks like a desert, so any small spark could start a fire. Burt had plenty of guns, but he was not a law enforcement officer. People can and will commit crimes. There was a doctor in the town. Maybe he was sufficient for cuts and broken bones, but what about a heart attack or a seizure? Maybe, a helicopter was flown in for critical situations.

The population of Perfection was relatively low, like 9 or 11. So everybody knew everybody and I highly doubt there would be any real crime. I don't think anyone was close to having a heart attack, except maybe Walter and perhaps Burt, who I'd assume was an "acting" officer but not official. I'm sure they had what they needed for fires and such. Not sure how far away Bixby is, like how many minutes it would take to drive there.

If you live in Perfection you are on your own when it comes to emergencies. That's one of the sacrifices you make when living outside of civilization.

Fires wouldnt be that big of a deal for most of them, for the most part. A lot of them were living in fairly basic houses that could be rebuilt without a ton of money invested. They werent big houses either, so if a fire started they could get out easily. Also, there was no danger of fires spreading and taking out multiple buildings.

Crime isnt as much of a concern when you have so few people in the area. Its easier to avoid dangerous situations when there only a handful of people to even interact with in the first place.

If you have a health related emergency you are definitely on your own. The best you can do is be careful and know enough basic first aid to take care of yourself. Anything like a heart attack would just be a guaranteed death.

I'm watching this now and they just talked about why they couldn't call for help. The mountains all around block the CB radios. So I guess it's the same for phones. They were on their own.

i've been in big cities where it took 2 hours for a police officer to show up.. by which time it was pretty much useless, and that was within a couple miles of a police station.

i've also lived in a couple towns that have no police force of their own, one police station covers two towns, and still only has a couple cars. but they actually responded much faster then the city.

each of the small towns i lived in, you basically had to get someone to bring you to the doctors if something happened, which could be 20 - 40 miles away.

but the benefit of the small towns like that (and perfection) is you won't get caught in traffic.. so even tho the nearest doctor, police and possibly even fire dept could be 30+ miles away, it won't take much longer (if at all) then in the city.
