The Streams and ghostbusters streams?

So I was just watching the Spaced Invaders movie for the first time in nearly 15 years since I used to enjoy this movie as a kid but I noticed something strange that I thought maybe others who saw Spaced Invaders can help me out here.

Anyways, there is a scene in the movie where the two martians are setting up this giant weapon that is aimed at this giant and tall "Puny Missile Silos" is what the Martians called it lol.

So anyways between 00:50:04 through 00:51:04 (Hours:Minutes:Seconds) I noticed when the Martians eventually shoot at the large tube thing (I forgot what they are really called) but the streams effects that come off from the giant weapon that the two martians set off look EXACTLY like the same streams that come from the Proton Packs used in the Ghostbusters film.

I wonder if the the people behind the Spaced Invaders film actually used the same stream effects from the proton packs that was used in the Ghostbusters film or if they hired the same person that made the stream effects for the Ghostbusters film and used it for the Space Invaders film. Perhaps it could of been stock footage or they asked permission from Columbia Pictures, etc.

Well that is pretty much it, I can't believe I am making a thread about this since some people may think this is a pointless/stupid thread but I am just curious about the streams since I am a HUGE Ghostbusters nerd, thanks for reading!

cheers!

Not sure but I believe the director's friend was ILM supervisor John Knoll and ILM worked on Ghostbusters II. Knoll contributed some effects for the film so you never know.
