Clint Eastwood

So far, this is the only film directed by Clint Eastwood I haven't liked.

Eastwood Classics:

Unforgiven
Million Dollar Baby
Mystic River
A Perfect World

I have yet to see Letters from Iwo Jima.

He's one of my favorite directors along side Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, and Michael Mann.

The Rookie was a mistake.

Thoughts?

Not exactly a mistake, but a misfire. At tat moment in his career Eastwood probably needed a box office hit under his belt to make more personal movies, so why not take off the dust from the Harry Callahan archtype and hire one of the hottest young names in Hollywood to co-star?

I agree it's not a very good movie, but Eastwood still directs the lousy script with enough profesionalism. The opening and closing chases are well executed and exciting, even if the rest of the movie is far less accomplished.

Yeah it's not really that good but it's ever so entertaining; you can tell Clint had fun with the it.

"Do we get to win this time?" -- John Rambo

It's a fun enjoyable film it's not meant to be oscar material, it does what it sets out to do and delivers the action nothing more/nothing less. It's for fans of the Dirty Harry series and buddy cop movies like Lethal Weapon.

As a buddy cop fan, this was one of Clint Eastwood's best films. He was a bit more human in this film and I am compering this with his other films. Well, at least his partner survives in this film !

The best films are made in an intelligent format.

I guess you guys haven't seen Blood Work, The Gauntlet and Pink Cadillac.
Firefox was also overwrought.

Dude means nice guy. Dude means a regular sort of person.

The Gauntlet is awesome and Blood Work is a decent mystery thriller though nothing that special. I'm not surprised that the original poster is flabbergasted though cause he/she has only seen the recent classy films. Eastwood has made plenty of movies that aren't that great.
