And this taught me to not trust Imdb ratings
5.1? Hilarious.
This is one of the best Rocky movies. I bet people bitch about this one because Rocky is retired and it doesn't feature a big showdown on the ring and it's doesn't have a memorable adversary (why everyone has to be a hot shot like Apollo? Rocky is about real life, not James Bond villains).
The things that I always liked about Rocky were the drama and the passion for the sport, not a belt and not a ring. The will to win and to stand up after every beating. This movie has all of that.
Granted it has its flaws, like the petty excuse to have Rocky to go bankrupt, but I can forgive that. The Duke character is also very annoying, I agree, but in the final fight he gets pretty hilarious. Sage Stallone is really good in this one for a kid of his age who had no previous experience. As for Adrian, I disliked that she got pushed away during most of the movie.
The dynamic of family is finally treated here. Not all of the punches in Rocky's life came from fists, and he will always be naive, so he needs to learn from life so he can wise up as he says, he needs to go through this Tommy-Rocky Jr. problem to learn that family comes first. This movie is not perfect but it has a lot of good messages and the spirit of the Rocky movies.
It deserves at least a 6/6.5.
