Monk connection
In this movie, a young Tony Shalhoub plays a cab driver who doesn't speak a word of English. Shalhoub confirmed in interviews that the "language" he used was simply gibberish. (Did anyone really believe "blufftoni" was an actual word in some language?) While the movie pretends it's a real language, the running gag is that no one can figure out what language that is.
In one of the episodes of Monk (starring Shalhoub, years later), an earthquake sends Monk into a state of hysteria causing him to go through an entire day speaking in gibberish even though he perceives that he's speaking English. In one scene (which, if I recall, happens to be the first scene I ever saw of the show), he gets into a cab, and in a twist on the usual stereotypes about foreign cabdrivers, the driver gets apoplectic that he can't understand his passenger (who he thinks is speaking "Turkish"), and he goes on a rant about people coming to this country without learning English.
