Anyone prefer this to the first movie? - Predator 2 (1990) Discussion

Very different movies. P2 is like a detective action flick. P1 is a horror action. I like em both. But the first is the best still imo.

I think that's why I prefer the sequel....because the first movie (regardless of synopsis) is an 'Arnie' movie (and the Alien seems secondary) The lack of any 'superstars' in the sequel, meant that it had to be plot driven, first and foremost.

I liked the fact they set it seven years in the future, yet it had a 50's noir-ish look to proceedings (rather than have silly 'dated' gadgets, like many 'futuristic' movies)

I have definetly watched the sequel more than the first. The actors performances are better and it's in a total, eye shocking setting. Even more scary cuz its more population. The ending scene in the ship scared the mess out of me when I first saw. Haunted me for days..lol.

Very different. I would say which one I prefer could change depending on mood. It’s a shame most people seem to shit the n the sequel.

They seem to hate it cuz Arnie isn't in it and that the human star is a Black man. Never mind, that the star of the film is THE PREDATOR!!! LOL. Danny Glover was great!

You know, I never once gave thought to Glover’s race being a reason people might not like it.

He’s a big guy, I assume a tough inner city cop. I think it works. You don’t necessarily need a jacked up guy like Arnold. I think Glover was an interesting choice and he did a great job.

Yup. Was there for the 90's, can confirm.

I also don't think I've ever seen anyone point to Danny Glover as a problem with the film, then or now.

I like the fact they did something different with Predator 2..and that it's a pretty good flick in it's own right. If I was ever in a conversation with someone about 90's movies and they said Predator 2 was a dud, I'd correct them on the spot and say "no, it's a very decent movie".
The first Predator was good but I thought the acting left A LOT to be desired.

predator 2 is the one i watch more. i like them both and none of the other sequels. a few of the short films are ok.

I used to. But ultimately it's a great concept for a sequel with some great ideas but the script could have been much better and acting is meh at best

I prefer the sequel because it feels more like a horror film where you get the sense that the hero might die.
