NIGHTBREED TV SERIES
What do you all think about this? I'm really excited at the prospect, providing it keeps the spirit of the orignal and Barker is heavily involved.
"In a recent interview, Horror Master Clive Barker stated that he was interested in bringing the Nightbreed to cable television. In an interview on his web site Barker had this to say about the Breed:
“We are also actively in conversation about doing a Nightbreed television series which will be for cable, so it will have a chance to be as sexy or as graphic in terms of the violence as we need it to be. For example, do you have Spartacus over there? Oh my God, it redefines gruesome... I also applaud them for finally realising it’s not a bad thing to see a manhood once in a while – it’s not as if half the world doesn’t see it daily…”
"The sensitivity of our culture has sort of caught up with Nightbreed. I don’t wish to be immodest but the general sense is that the movie failed because people didn’t want to associate with the monster and I think our culture has changed – I think our culture is now ready to embrace the ambiguity. You’ve only got to look at Twilight where obviously the monsters are the good guys – I’m not a huge fan but I’m enough of a fan to watch and see monsters being celebrated...”
Whether this is a relaunch or continuation of Barker’s film, Nightbreed, remains to be seen. The original film was from 1990. The plot featured a community of mutant outcasts that lived in hiding waiting for a savior. When the savior does emerge he garners the attention a psychotic serial killer and redneck vigilantes who wish to destroy the mutants. It was based on Barker’s own book, “Cabal”. The film featured Craig Sheffer as Boone, the messiah, and David Cronenberg as the psychotic serial killer, Dr. Phillip Decker. It was Clive Barker’s second full length directorial feature.
Has anyone seen Barker and his director’s cut of Nightbreed on tour? The final question is, does a Nightbreed series interest you? "
