Things that bother me in NIGHTBREED...

Why is it that when Boone gets bitten, there's a circular white special effect appliance under his bloody t-shirt? I'm referring to when he's bitten by "the Beast" after he first visits Midian, the bloody bite mark has white rubber or something under the prosthetic bite -- then, later, when he's stabbed, his injury has what appears to be a white card of some sort around it, and when Boone later pulls the knife out, he looks down on the card, and noticeably pulls it off -- I almost wondered if it was a weird mutant Nightbreed power that made these things appear, since he looked at it, but I've never seen this in any other movie.

Another thing that bugs me about the movie is the gum-chewing dude who rips his face off -- his 1950s Auto Mechanic performance is annoying and inappropriate, and why do certain peripheral characters have to throw out one-liners like, "There goes the neighborhood..."? If they didn't talk at all, they'd appear more menacing. Otherwise, I like this movie. There's very little I'd modify.

I have no idea what you are talking about in regards to Boone's wounds. What white foam? All I see is a torn white shirt with a fleshy bitten shoulder exposed. Yes, it looks rather fake now, but there is no white foam or plastic exposed. Later on when Boone fights Decker, Boone falls on a table where some characters had been playing cards earlier. He is already impaled, so when he lands on the table, the sharp knife goes through a playing card. When Lori pulls the knife out, the playing card remains stuck to his shirt due to the blood or good from his wound.

As for the rest, I was never a big fan of the rather campy portrayal of Narcisse (the guy who rips his face off). I also detest the scene where the fat Nightbreed says "there goes the neighborhood". It's really cringe-worthy. I can't believe that anyone at the time thought it was funny or cool. I enjoy the film, but it does have it's eye-rolling moments here and there. I guess it was just 1980s film making style?

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

I rewatched Nightbreed, and I clearly see a white plastic circle around the bite on Boone's shoulder when Boone checks out his injury, just before the monster I call "Mac Tonight" comes over to help him escape 'The Beast.' It's really obvious. I wish we could post pictures so you could see what I'm talking about -- it's at around the 21 minute mark...you can, sort of, see it here: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k150/kainsreign/NIGHTBREEDavi_001259 841.jpg You're 100% right about the card coming from the card table, by the way. I'd never noticed it before. Good call.

The circle is the hole in Boone's shirt. I don't see anything other than his torn open shirt that exposes the flesh wound. It's not that great looking, but it isn't what you are claiming either.

I think that's the t-shirt.

I amended my initial post to be more specific; I contend that it's a white appliance made of, probably, rubber -- not quite "foam," but I was thinking in terms of how such appliances are usually made in a mold out of a rubbery foam-like substance that hardens. I think it's blatantly obvious that it's not a mere hole in his T-shirt from the bite wound, but a special effects appliance beneath his flimsy T-shirt -- its thread count was probably so meager that the appliance could be seen...not trying to argue. Just trying to explain what I was referring to.

I am not trying to argue with you either. I just don't quite see it the same way you do. Of course it is a cheap looking latex application on his shoulder that tries to mimic a horrible bite wound to questionable effect. It's kind of icky, yet someone not quite convincing. I have always said that having Boone wear a white tee shirt was a mistake, especially in scenes like this or when he has his final fight with Decker. He should have had a black tee shirt on here, so the tear in the shirt to reveal the flesh wound would look a bit more convincing. There is just too much lack of contrast due to the white shirt and the pale skin. Barker probably made the choice so the blood stains would be more evident, though I don't think it worked well. He also should have been shirtless the rest of the film, just wearing his jacket like he did when he was baptized, or being completely shirtless as to reveal his bullet wounds and being impaled by Decker's knife during the final confrontation. Craig Sheffer was a pretty built guy, so there would have been no harm in showing him off a bit. All these little cosmetic changes I would make if I could!

I understood what it is finally, as I had also wondered: it's Boone's skin. the t-shirt is rippen by the bite, we see the bite and around the skin still intact, the circle is just a quite unrealistic perfectly round hole in Boone's t-shirt, it's so unrealistic thet seems an applied make-up, but it's just a hole in Boone's t-shirt, the skin is pale so it seems white at night.

In that image i see a whole in the t-shirt and no white disc at all, i can kind of see where you are coming from but to me it's blatantly obvious the shirt is tore open.

you have the wound then a circular shape then a blood soaked t-shirt - the t-shirt starts where the blood starts the white "disc" is just boons skin underneath the bloody shirt
