Humans would have whooped those freaks

Odd to see a movie where the director was having the evil freaks kill the humans as if the humans were bad.

Interesting reflection of the man's mind.

I wonder if any of Barker's homosexuality played a role in making this movie with the 'freaks' beating the 'normals'.

You sound like the type that loves to hunt for sport and thinks his race is supreme, just saying.

I don't hunt for sport....
don't even like hunting.
I "like" animals.

Regarding "race", I'm pretty mixed. But, for what it's worth - I don't really think of life in that frame of mind (as you apparently do).

Still - the humans would have whooped those freaks. Juss sayin

Humans are a species amongst other/different species.
When you hear "the human race" do understand that is said to show unity amongst races WITHIN the species.

Regardless -
Humanity, while capable of terrible things is also capable of amazing things.
Why don't you quit belaboring your own species and do something about it.
But no, you probably won't. You're quite content to sneer.

And just how, pray tell, is he going to "do something about it" and change the basic nature of humankind? He's one person who is part of an extreme minority that recognise that humans are not gods to the rest of life on this planet, and that humans treat the other animal species abominably.

You call that "belaboring your own species", but what that person is doing is simply acknowledging something that is self-evident, no, bleeding obvious, to any human being capable of looking objectively at not just human history, but also at current human practises and attitudes: vivisection, animal experimentation, factory farming, pollution, deforestation, overpopulation, and the quest to waste time and valuable, finite resources exploring space rather than trying to stop destroying the planet.

Space exploration is a waste of time? Not trying to be an ass or anything, I thought it was a cool post, but space exploration is pretty rad. I agree that people are treating the planet poorly, but don't fret. It will still be here, with life teeming on the surface, long after humanity has gone extinct.

I wonder if any of Barker's homosexuality played a role in making this movie with the 'freaks' beating the 'normals'. >>> Barker has said countless times that this film reflects his own inner feelings towards the bigotry that people have towards gay people. He speaks about this openly to this day. Morgan Creek realized what was going on with the film and tried to tell Clive that he couldn't make a movie about that. This is part of the reason that they turned their backs on the film and it ended up getting cut to pieces. One must wonder, though, why the stupid company didn't see this before they decided to make a movie. It's blatantly in the book.

And I don't think the point of the story is the "beat the normals" (or the straights), but rather to show the plight for acceptance in the world. That is what Boone's mission was after Midian was destroyed...to make a place for the Breed in the real world and to no longer hide. Too bad the sequels never came about in either movie or book form.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

reply

If this is what you think you completely missed the point of the movie. Do you really agree that the Nightbreed are the evil ones even though they did basically nothing until forced, while a driving force of the plot was a human serial killer blaming his actions on the innocent. The whole point of the movie was that evil can be anywhere, and that you cannot know something because of it's look, nor should you judge based on that.

Are you talking about Humans as a whole, or just during the last scene?

Why does a persons sexual preference always have to become a topic when picking a film apart?I loved this film because I was disfigured in a fire and I felt like a "freak" too...and I am not "evil"...as the "creatures',for the most part, were not either. It sickens me that people still think that anyone who is "different" ,sexually or physically, are always "bad" or "evil".I really do not think that Mr. Barker was intentionally trying to send filmgoers a "message"...other than don't always criticize what you don't understand. A brilliant movie, although I know that he was disappointed in the version of his book,Cabal.

I liked the monsters in this movie. I do agree with the TC though, but not because of pride and narcissism for the human race. It's only because of two things: There are a LOT more humans so the Nightbreed are largely outnumbered, and humans have weapons that are capable of huge amounts of destruction (such as nukes and fuel-air bombs for example). However, if Baphomet made the Nightbreed equal to humans in terms of weaponry and numbers, then the Nightbreed would absolutely slaughter the humans. They're superior to humans as a race but are inferior in weaponry and numbers.

If I remember correctly, in the original novel the humans did whip the freaks.

Though they lacked the military hardware of their film counterparts (assault rifles, flamethrowers, and RPGs), the Shere Neck militia did plenty of damage by pouring gasoline down into the catacombs, lighting it, and picking off the Nightbreed as they were driven to the surface, letting sunlight do most of the work.

It's been a while since I've read it, but I don't think there were any human casualties. The slaughter is halted only when Reverend Ashberry convinces the militia to see the error of their ways and return to their homes. The only one who refuses is, of course, Eigerman who tries to attack Ashberry but is frightened off by Boone.

By the time the humans split, the damage is already done and whatever is left of the Nightbreed ultimately abandons Midian.
