Director's Cut still a very uneven film

i was a little let down with the directors cut i was expecting this cut to fix the pace of the film and make it less random but the film still feels like 100s of cool concepts but not enough elaborations on them

i was also expecting more of a build up before boon gets kicked out of midian but no same story thay baptize him then kick him out moments after

also the nightbreed drink blood but are not warriors but some are ,

why are the beserkers the way they are

why boon obsessed by midian and yet never considers looking for it

why did baphomet burn the priest only to have him go crazy and try to hunt down the nightbreed later on , actually i thought the theatrical ending was much better as it set up Decker as a rival for the breed who was for sure a much better villan than the whiny priest

also the boon turning lory thing was a cool idea but it was acted and written so very badly like the line about him coming back for her when she is 90 and he is still the same , why would he only come back when she is 90 makes no sense what so ever

also i hated the police officer talking about grot wire that was so hammy

in fact i think the bad stuff outweighed the good in this new cut its like it still has the same flaws it always had but now it has more and still has an open ending which i remember seeing in an interview with clive barker stating that was not the case with his original cut seams to not be true

and what was all the second wind talk all about at the end thay are making out cabal is lost or dead waiting to be resurrected lol look over in that field a few yards away his laying around with lory

lol and oddly enough for all its faults theirs still alot to like with this film mainly its concepts and monster designs and of course Decker but it has that throw *beep* and the wall and see what sticks structure to it

anyone else let down with the directors cut

sorry for odd spelling im dyslexic

You make some good points - I agree with you, it's still really incoherent. There seems to be nothing more explained and it still lurches from moment to moment without making many of the concepts clear.

yea its a shame because i like this film but so many things get in the way of me loving it

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

That scene definitely should've been cut. An obvious set, rapidly acted, a clichéd "NOOOO!", etc. Everything about it is awful and fake. After the last explosion and the shot of Midian burning, I would've cut directly to the barn scene. Then cut to the scene with Ashberry and Eigerman. The end.

PS: The barn scene without the dissolve to Boone and Lori at the end, obviously. And that scene with Ashberry should clearly be at the end in order to finish the movie with a proper note.

Not sure what you watched, but the movie I watched had a lot happen between the baptism and the banishment. 13 minutes worth and it was pretty clear about why he was banished.

And please, don't take this like I'm disputing what you said. I've actually never seen the original cut. I'm sort of curious what differed in the original.

I never got that feeling from the film, but that may be because I read the original story first, and I'm a long-time fan of Clive Barker, and I can easily read into the subtle or unspoken aspects of his style.

i didnt feel it was a case of it being subtle just more along the lines of the film not being self contained enough to make much sens without the viewer reading the book before hand

This movie suffers the same problems as Highlander 2 and it's "corrected" version.

Listen, do you smell something? -Ray Stantz

Yeah, I watched the DC last night for the first time and while I guess it's more coherent than the TC there's still something a little off about it. Still an enjoyable movie though.

I also like the theatrical ending better.
