Has a heavy Blue tint across the entire spectrum, making it look like Day for night. Twilight Times claims the transfer is filmmaker approved but I call BS.
See the different Blu-Ray review forums before purchasing at the inflated eBay price of $100.00+ since it is now OOP.
The settings aren't "off". The transfer is crap. You shouldn't have to adjust your settings to the extreme for one blu-ray, while the rest of your blu-ray collection looks fine.
Clearly this disc is the problem, not every other disc on the market as you seem to be implying.
Agreed. It is simply one of the very worst film-to-media transfers I've ever seen....and I'm old enough to have bought VHS tapes in stores, so I've seen more than a few f-ups.
FROM WIKIPEDIA: The blu-ray of this film was released in a limited edition of 3,000 in October of 2012 by a small "boutique video" company known as Twilight Time. All 3,000 copies were pre-ordered to the point of selling out completely in a matter of days, setting a new sales-speed record for the fledgling company. However, criticism of the release has been widespread; the (supposedly Sony-approved) transfer is far too dark, and has a strange blue tint throughout a large portion of the feature film, though this discoloration is not evident on the trailer for the film. Ironically, the trailer is included as an extra on the blu-ray.
"Crap" is probably an overstatement. "Different" might be more accurate. Apparently it's pretty sharp and has lots of detail.

What's with the "supposedly" and "Sony-approved"? They created the master used for this transfer. Twilight Time is a middle-man.
I'm still waiting on my copy, so this is all theoretical right now, but as someone who usually can't stand revisionism (The French Connection blu-ray v.1 drove me nuts) I doubt I'll bother returning mine. The whole thing sounds rather "tempest in a teapot" -- particularly for a film that's pretty so-so to begin with. And now Savini's come out saying he likes it.

Agree. Never been so disappointed by a release in my life. I've read that Savini says it looks great, and that Sony signed off on it. Maybe, but to me, it seems like no one wants to stir the waters or be bothered with it. It looks horrible and in fact makes no logical sense when paying attention to details. Ground fog in the opening morning scene, then evening 5 minutes later? A scene of transition from day to night, when the new look it is night long before that? ugly, fake looking blue filter makes it look ridiculous and "modern". colors totally muted in every other scene, ruining makeup and special effects. missing sound effects, while others have been altered for no reason. way too dark. In my opinion, nearly unwatchable.
Who cares if Savini likes the new transfer? We don't have to. He pulled a Lucas and he should just admit it. Anyways, I'm not a big enough fan of the film to really go on with this. I probably would have bought the blu for 5 bucks if I saw it at WM but I wouldn't have gone out of my way for it. Even the original price TT charged for it was too high. No new features and an altered transfer = screw em.
I found this Amazon review to be pretty accurate! ;)

The actual detail in the transfer is beautiful. . . . .too bad it looks like it was re-mastered by Smurfs with cataracts.
Someone wake me when this comes out again, PROPERLY corrected.
There is a fate worse than death.....and that's paying $30+ for this disc, when it should be in the $5 bins at WalMart. Even then it would cost too much, considering the butchering that Sony/Twilight Time/someone else gave this title on blu-ray.
The picture is cleaner and crisper than it's DVD counterpart, that much is true. But there's nothing else to appreciate here; the manufacturers have seen fit to adjust the color (to a dark blue hue that's simply ridiculous) and the brightness, and to such an extreme that a well-calibrated TV has to be re-adjusted extensively just to see an "acceptable" picture. And, I'm sorry, but that's just UN-acceptable. Let me say this: if you re-adjust your settings for this, you'd better write down your original settings....because you'll be many miles from those settings trying to make this Smurfy-abortion look proper.
Utter garbage that looks crisp and clean. How people (sheeple) can be so accepting of this is beyond me. If you're a film purist, you'll want to avoid this one like the (zombie) plague!
Happy viewing to you!
UPDATE: Oct. 9, 2012 - It turns out that Tom Savini "gave his okay" on this version after it was long-sold-out. I know, because I just got done talking to him (I initially contacted him via email, the same one he uses on his public website for contact: [email protected]). He also told me that he was PAID FOR HIS "OPINION" by Twilight Time, the label that released this dreck.
Tom told me that he was given 5 copies to sell/keep/whatever in return for his thoughts on this release.
Poor Tom can't even spell blu-ray (he spells it BLUE RAY)....why would we even care what he thinks about this release? His ignorance of digital media is openly on display, whether he directed the film or not. He also said that it looks "fantastick". Ummm....maybe you'd better stick to the makeup, Tom.
As another review of this blu-ray release stated, "You can buy Tom's opinion for about $12 and a bag of Skittles."
Missing from the new Blu-Ray is the making-of featurette, "The Dead Walk: Remaking A Classic".
Here is a quote from actress Patricia Tallman...
When we started shooting, we started with the beginning of the script, which was the graveyard scene. This was spring time in Pittsburgh; we wanted to have that gloomy, rainy kind of thing going on - which I believe is the way it is in the original. Instead we had these glorious, sunshining, blue days with birds chirping in the background. Not scary at all. But at the end, Tom loved it, 'cause its the opposite; it was the opposite of what you expected. And that's what he kept doing in that scene.
All this other stuff is just DAMAGE CONTROL for the PR nightmare this has turned into for Twilight Time.
And they deserve it, too. "Film lovers" my ass! They didn't even know the transfer had been altered in any way! Sounds like "real film fans" to me....not.
They didn't watch it before they released it, if I recall their statement/spin correctly. Whether or not they watched it first, they had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE RELEASING.
They have no business whatsoever attempting to please TRUE FANS of cinema.....and especially any film(s) that have a fervent fan base.
Their sales will definitely (and deservedly) suffer over this SNAFU.
You do know that Twilight Time had no control over the transfer, right?
They took what they were given by Sony and that's that. Furthermore, the transfer was approved by the director of photography. They couldn't have changed it if they wanted to. Plus, aside from issues of tint and darkness, the transfer is quite good.
The alternative is not releasing it at all, which they probably wish they'd done after the stream of abuse they've received (like this), and the bottom line is, they've done nothing wrong.
And if they hadn't released it...what then? No release? Is that a better scenario?
Their sales will definitely (and deservedly) suffer over this SNAFU.
I think you're overestimating the effect that a few scorned horror fans can have. Yes, the film looks different than the DVD and (many maintain) the 1990 theatrical prints. But does it look terrible? If you think so, return your opened copy for a refund (which TT has graciously allowed) or mark it up 300% and sell it on eBay. I'm keeping mine.
First off I'm not a Blu-Ray guy, strickly DVDs (I'm just not impressed by the picture quality).
I've been reading much of the controversy, complaints.
The issue is that for many who only buy Blu - this is the only way to see NOTLD '90. DVD has become a dirty word for some; I run into these people when I shop at Best Buy.
Anyhow, home video is the cinema archive for the masses. And this is what we have?
The same goes for 20th Century Fox's Blu transfer of "Predator". They went the extreme route and took out much of the film grain from their hi-def transfer/master. All the actors now look plastic, uber airbrushed. This is how a generation of viewers will see this feature.
Look, there is a responsibility studios have to persevere their work for generations to come. An awesome example would the work done for "Gone With The Wind". The picture is... fantastic. Amazing. That's how you do it.
This didn't happen here. And until Twilight Time's licensing expires in three years. This is what we have - an inferior presentation. And it should matter, these are the keepers of dreams, memories. Childhood.
Yes, Twilight Time shouldn't have taken all the heat, but they're not 100% blameless. They should've seen what they were releasing before shipping them out.
What if they did? They should still sell it. But have a disclaimer and a video comparison for buyers to decide. Look, they would still sellout, true. But all this mess on their heads wouldn't have exist - the blame would fall solely on Sony who made it.
For those interested in watching the new "blue tint/darkened" version, Encore Play (& I assume Encore On Demand) has the new version. I'm seeing like this for the first time (I missed out on the Twilight Blu).
Though I can appreciate they're trying to make the movie NIGHT of the Living Dead, it is just WAYYY too blue and WAAAAYYYYYY too DARK! Having watched this movie multiple times throughout the years, its bugging me...its just TOO danged dark!
---- Im gonna punch you in the cooter, I swear to God!
What I don't understand is how so many movies look good on pay channels in HD, yet their only releases in HD on disc look like crap. Where in the world are they getting their transfers from on those channels? And some movies DON'T EVEN HAVE an HD release on disc, yet are shown in hd on hbo, cinemax, etc... It's really annoying, because you have to keep it on a dvr to even SEE many movies in hd.
And a lot of movies I have no idea why they are NOT on Blu-ray (at elast in the U.S.), such as Virgin Suicides.
Yeah, and 'The ABYSS'on HBO...STILL yet to get an HD Release while it looks so much better and no DNR tinkering, just a cleaner(film grain retained) presentation. It's been on HBO and CINEMAX for a few years now, and only rumors of an upcoming Blu Ray Release date that comes and goes over and over with nothing concrete from 20th Century Fox or Cameron.
