Old man in the cemetery

The one that bumped into Barbara and said "I'm sorry" and wandered off... was he just bitten by the one that attacked her and killed her brother seconds later?

I thought it was odd he didn't attack her.

Head injury had him dazed and confused. No evidence he had been bitten.

That part still throws me off, great directing to fool the audience into a scare.

It's addressed in the making-of featurette on the DVD, here are two quotes...

He scares us, we think he's gonna be the zombie; turns out, he's just a freaked out old guy.

- actress Patricia Tallman

Tried to manipulate you in the remake - to believe that the first guy you see is a zombie, just like in the first film.

- director Tom Savini

It was a cool twist.

Too bad he wasn't a zombie. There's something disturbing about the idea of one zombie being able to talk while the others can't. Why? And for what is he "sorry"?

reply

Would a speaking zombie scare you more than an animalistic zombie that just moans/grunts?

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .
