Whenever the hobbling scene comes up, I will make an excuse to leave the room. Need to get more popcorn, or run to the bathroom to hide out until it's over. π
I can't think of many scenes that effect me that way.
I heard the scene was supposed to be gorier, with an axe if I'm not mistaken. IMO, they sure didn't need it.
It wouldn't have been nearly as disturbing if she'd used an axe. We've all seen limbs lopped off in horror movies. There's have been more blood, of course, but the sight of the leg breaking and bending like that was new and shocking to most people outside of paramedics and trauma center workers.

shareThat never, ever happened. I read the book, and she most certainly did not chop off his legs. She chopped off the top half of one of his feet. Dunno where he got this nonsense that she chopped off both legs one by one:

Alright alright, no need to roll your eyes. I read the book like 20 years ago, and it was an honest mistake. Yes, apparently she chopped off one foot at the ankle to punish him for leaving his room, and then cauterized the stump with a blowtorch. I remember it being the most disturbing part of the book for me, so over the years it must've just gotten exaggerated in my head when I thought back on it.
My bad.
