this movie is very baseball obsessed, do you guys know why? They seem to be red sox fans too. Does anyone know where the movie takes place and why they mention baseball all the time? Thanks!

This movie is baseball obsessed? I hadn't really noticed.

I think there is a reference to the Red Sox because Charlotte's new room used to be Joe's room and he had something about the Red Sox on the wall. I think that's how it went...I have to see it again.

Are there other references?

There are a lot of baseball references. Joe mentions how he is a huge sox fan. The mother's new boyfriend and his friends talk baseball all the time. they talk stats and bet about it. His idot was lou gehrig. At the end he takes them all the the baseball hall of fame. They mention the red sox quite a few times so i was wondering where the movie took place. do you know? Thanks!!

You are absolutely right, I totally forgot about them going to the baseball hall of fame! I really need to watch it again!

It was filmed all over Massachusetts, I can't remember if their town is ever named? I'm trying to remember where Cher pointed to on the map (when she's in the bath & decides where they're going), but all I can remember seeing was eastern USA, outside of Boston maybe?

The movie takes place in "Eastport" Massachusetts, which doesn't exist, but is probably based on Rockport, MA. In fact, that's where all the downtown scenes were filmed and the rest was filmed in the surrounding area of Mass (Cambridge, Manchester...).

It's "basball obsessed" because it takes place in Eastern Mass, and everyone there is obsessed with the Red Sox. Having lived in Boston for the past four years, I get it now.

Do you know the exact filming location of the monastary? with the waterfall and all? Is it still standing?

not sure but the tunnel like entry way of branches is filmed at halibat state park in rockport, ma...its pretty especially in summer

"Outside North Easton, a 60-foot bell tower was erected next to a century old barn, both of which were covered with a matching "stone" facade, to serve as the Protectors of the Blessed Souls convent. Caretaker Joe's shack and Mother Superior's cottage were built nearby."
