not like this book at all? we had to read this in English last year, and I hated it! Usually I like the curriculum books, but not this.

I can see everyone's point. But oddly enough, we just read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, and I liked it better than Lord of the Flies. Maybe it's just the style of the book?
"I rode through the rain!" - Mr. Knightley
I absolutely love Lord of the Flies. I'm studying to be an English teacher and I'm fairly certain it will be one of the novels I assign. The use of language is fantastic and the message is - I think - important.
I don't know if this was the case for you, but I think a lot of people who read text's like this get disturbed by it and therefor decide that they don't like it, and that it's a bad book. However I think the fact that it can effect people in such a way just goes to show how profound a piece of literature it is, and how fantastic a writer Mr. Golding was. Many of the scenes described are truly disgusting, but they're supposed to be - the reader reacts in exactly the way that the author had intended.
I love english. I really want to read the book again. It has been like seventeen years since I read it in school. I think it is time to read it again.
shareIt's got its own writing style but still good.
