5.2 score on IMDb

The score has now DROPPED by .1....it was at 5.3 for years. I am curious about this because most of the comments are positive....extremely positive.
Some calling it their favorite movie of all time.
You'd think the score would reflect that.

Yes I realize there are huge Joe haters out there (and why they hate this movie so much is a puzzle to me)....this is a great movie; warm, witty and wise.
I'll take this over that shameless Woody Allen rip-off "When Harry Met Sally" anyday.

Joe Versus the Volcano lovers: WHY is the rating so low? Is there some "hater" working at the IMDb chiming in every day with a score of "1" to lower it, all the way to the "Bottom 100" list????? Help me out.

I don't know, but I have noticed that it is a very common thing for films on imdb to have mostly positive comments and low scores at the same time. I think people who like movies are a little more likely to write about them than people who don't like them (much easier to punch a "1" and be done with it.) It could also be as you suggested that there are people who despise the films padding the scores with low votes...or alternately, that these movies' fans aren't hardcore enough to keep padding the score with high votes, which is probably how a lot of the higher-scored movies get where they are.
