This movie never apealed much to me until

A dear and precious friend recommended it, so I rented the DVd from the library and loved it. Tom Hanks great performance of course, but also Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, and Abe Vigoda were great.

And I especially liked the musical scenes with Merle Travis singing 16 Tons, Ray Charles singing Old Man River and The Inkspots I Cover The Waterfront.

I will need to see it again in time to compare the opening scenes with METROPOLIS. Very definite reference there, and very well done.

yeah totally references metropolis as the workers march in unison to the factories

Yeah, it's been so long now since I've seen this movie, but I still feel impressed by that opening sequence.

This movie was okay. Definitely not better than the other two Tom & Meg movies. The whole movie was totally weird. Some scenes looked like Joe was smoking pot getting high and seeing things, which was kind of funny. I really liked Meg's roles in this movie. They were pretty funny. Towards the end of the movie when Joe and Meg are floating on his luggages, Meg was totally hot there.

Neal-

Eric Burdon, the lead singer of the 60's rock & roll band, The Animals, sang 16 tons.

Right. When I looked at the soundtrak I spotted Merle Travis, but of course he wrote it, but it was Eric Burdon who performed it. (I wish they had used the origiginal Tennessee Ernie Ford's recording, but can't have everything..LOL)
