what a gorgeous main theme..

..`marooned without you` must be the most hauntingly beautiful theme i`ve ever heard. It`s so full of yearning.. listen to it on: http://users.tellurian.net/markb/jvtv/

sorry, i`ve just realised somebody else has put up this link before me!

The attraction of the main theme, is i would say, that it`s really a hymn, with a slow moving bass, stepwise, and the melody is gentle, but with triplets, and suggests high adventure and yearning at the same time.

Apparently, the composer, Georges Delerue, now deceased unfortunately, is regarded as a master of the romantic style of film composition. He was very prolific in film scores, but knowing some of the other films he`s scored (`twins` for example) i`d imagine he`d be proudest of this one!

I really don`t know why the theme is so strong but it tries to reduce me to tears every time, how about you?

I agree and love the music too! back when the soundtrack and the DVD were not released I was craving a DVD release and a soundtrack release! but now that both have been released, I'm pretty happy. even the music they didn't use in the movie was wonderful. this movie is just wonderful no question about it, everything in it is perfect!

I've seen hundreds of movies and this movie easily ranks in my top five for best musical scores.

I assume when you refer to the main theme, you mean the soaring, achingly gorgeous piece heard at the onset of the end titles, among other places? Indeed it is one of Delerue's most magnificent achievements. I love this score a great deal.
