Anybody notice the symbolism (albeit hardly subtle symbolism) of the hat? Each time Joe makes a life change, he throws away a hat. When he quits his job, when he gets on the boat, and when he goes to rescue Patricia. (He has his rain slicker hat in his hand, and he throws it away.) Interesting, and I like the meaning.
