Anyone else see similarities between this movie and Cats Cradle? (book written by Kurt Vonnegut)

Joe even makes a cats cradle on the yacht.

Yeah, but the theme of this movie is much more optimistic than Cat's Cradle (or anything from Vonnegut really)

We are the children of children, and we do as we are told - "Joe vs. The Volcano"

I can see it. Man searching for meaning ends up on an isolated island to face death. Its not exact but there is something there. One of my top 3 favorite books and movies, im glad u made the connection.
