If the post vietnam scenes are a halucination, how can we have the scene where its been explained that the us army gave them lsd? Isnt that weird?

If you really think about it, Jacob was dying on the table in Vietnam. The life we were witness to was no more than 2 hours in length. We were seeing his life as the last electrical impulses were firing in his brain. Albeit a twisted life. It was a life that his mind created before he passed on.
shareThe pre and post vietnam scenes are not halucinations. They are the only thing that is "real".

The ending was symbolic. He 'died' in Vietnam.
shareAs i take it, we are all brought back to him actually lying on the table (still in Nam?) and yes, perhaps quickly (in the span of a 2 hr movie) seeing---all that played out as he "went back" home, only to unravel what was actually currently going on with his mind in Nam, and
when he sees his son at the end, it's almost as if he's "leading" him to heaven,---he even says---"come on let's go up, it's ok"----and leads him up some golden stairs that are appearing to be quite ethereal and heaven-like
I love ambiguous movies. There are so many possibilities when it comes to interpretation.
