Anyone ever listen to the commentary?

I enjoy commentary on many dvds. It's always a disappointment when you get a lot of dull technical info, although I imagine that a film student might find it interesting. I'm also annoyed at times when an actor runs on and on about things that have nothing to do with the movie or the making of it. That said,
I absolutely love the commentary on this. So many of the stars talked as well as the director..... lots of fun little tidbits.
If you haven't listened in, you are in for a treat.

It really is fun. Having seen the movie so many times over the years, I actually prefer watching with the commentary on now.

John Ritter was quite entertaining....
Richard Thomas talked about working with his co-stars, as did everyone else. He mentioned his birth mark on his cheek and what a pain it must have been to apply it each day for the boy who played him as a child
Tim Reed had interesting things to say about that time..... example? There were people there at the time they were shooting the movie who were trying to interest him in investing in some new coffee shop chains. He didn't think the idea would fly...... Some years later he says he could kick himself for not investing in Starbucks!
So much was discussed about the sets and the the buildings they shot at in Canada. They discussed the young actors who played them as children.
They all talked about the clown!
So many interesting things. You'll have to check it out

The caste was warm. I thought after all this time they would've drifted apart, but it felt like old friends getting together. Sharing some jokes, memories and I found it relaxing. I found out quite some info like Tim had doubts about makeup or some shots came naturally like the rain. Very informative.

I agree with so much of what you say. I am assuming that this commentary was made not too far before Ritter's death.

Another commentary that is so much fun is John Waters on Mommie Dearest. We have always found his humor raunchy and strange, but in a fun way. My son got the dvd for me a number of years ago. I had seen the film so many times so I checked out the commentary. What a pleasant surprise?
It's the sort of thing you want to sit through on a lazy rainy/snowy Sunday afternoon. It's like watching it with a fun friend.
You ought to check that out. It enhances that movie!

I don't think I've seen it. I'm a big John water's fan though. I'll see about picking it up from books and nobles.

Also have you seem the original hairspray? John Waters and Rickie Lake remind me of that to. He really goes into some of his life, his friendship with Divine and where he got the idea from Buddy Dean. Its one of my favorites.

They talked about the sets...................
HOWEVER
NOTHING was told regarding the iconic "outfall" building where Pennywise presumably lived, and the kids eventually entered. They DID mention that the INSIDE of the building was filmed in an abandoned steel mill. But again nothing was said about the OUTSIDE.
So I ask the question, does the building actually exist?
If so, where is it. If not, was it simply a very elaborate set. Whatever it is, it IS an icon to the movie. A lot of thought went into that. It is eye catching and is one of the most memorable things in the movie. It will be interesting to see what they come up with in the new movie that comes out this year.

I agree. Not everything was explained or touched upon in the commentary. Much of the book was not even touched upon.... It's a shame.

Having loved the book, I am also interested in seeing what they come up with in the new movie/movies..... I understand that this is a two parter.
