When adult Ben is in the skyscraper with that chick right before he gets he call from Mike, Ben says "you can bet your fern. You know we used to say that as kids".
It's not fern. It's fur!!! How can they botch that so badly :-(
I had read the book a few times already when I saw the movie for the first time and remember having the same reaction! "You bet your fern."? That makes NO sense. Why would kids or anyone regard a fern as currency? I always took "You bet your fur" to be another way of saying you get your skin. I googled it and it returned an answer saying the phrase is "You bed your fur" which apparently means "You can bet on it." Still not sure what that means but it makes more sense than "fern."

John Ritter actually comments on that being "not a literal adaption from the book" when he says that line in the DVD commentary. He was a HUGE SK fan and loved IT, so he gives a lot of cool little insights. Ben's scene of telling his weight-loss story wasn't in the script, Ritter insisted it be filmed though.

Cool. Thanks for that tidbit. I loved John Ritter in this movie. I also love how he tells the weight loss story. He was a great actor. When I saw this as a teen I had only seen him in comedies and he gets real serious in this movie. I loved that side of him.
